beautiful people. beautiful places.

I. Must. Have. This.  “Poolside with Slim Aarons” – I’m not sure why I love it, but I do.  The book captures “beautiful people in beautiful places doing beautiful things” and each picture is poolside.  All pictures are taken throughout the 50’s and 60’s.  How great is the picture where they are playing backgammon in the pool? For whatever reason the book kind of reminds me of my sweet grandparents.  They are, and have always been, total jet setters who love to see the world.  Since they were young, maybe 30’s, they have taken a trip every year to Mexico…

For whatever reason the book kind of reminds me of my sweet grandparents.  They are, and have always been, total jet setters who love to see the world.  Since they were young, maybe 30’s, they have taken a trip every year to Mexico for two weeks with a big group of friends.  I have seen pictures (pretty hysterical) and they look a lot like these.  Too cute for words.

Because I can’t quite afford to buy one of Slim Aarons pretty prints (someday, someday), I thought that this was the next best thing.  A coffee table book that can be constantly looked at!  And it could be neat to someday frame a few pages from the book too?

You’ve Got the Love

Heard this song by Florence + The Machine on the Pandora the other day and have been obsessing about it ever since.  Don’t make fun of me but it reminds me of my sorority dayz (especially January days in Ohio) because we had the same song sung by The Source/Candi Stanton in our rush video… Angels and arrows for life! You may also recognize it as the song used in Sex and the City’s season finale in 2004.  So great memories all around with this song, really. But really, I love the song by itself and the video is pretty…

But really, I love the song by itself and the video is pretty wicked too.  Florence has amazing personal style and she is definitley one of my favorite red-heads.

canvas classics

I spotted these pillows by Utility Canvas last week in a home store while we were on our trip.  I love everything about them – the simplicity, clean lines, and no fuss solids.  They’re like you’re favorite worn in pair of jeans that you wish you could wear everyday, except in a pillow.  Ya catch my drift?  I am a little upset because these pictures don’t really do them justice.  I promise they’re absolutely perfect.  So perfect that we walked into the door of the store, I spotted them in the back corner, and practically ran back there to caress…

The pillows are 100% cotton, quilted garment dyed canvas, and MACHINE WASHABLE! Ding, ding, ding, ding. Screaming to go into a house with children or dogs.  I want to get my boyfriend two of them, I think they would work well with his dogs on the couch, food on the couch, feet on the couch lifestyle.  Ya know?  And seeing as he has no pillows on his couch and it drives me carazzzyy, I think we could compromise on these solid, non-girly, classics:)

On another note, while researching the brand, I found that they also make some pretty fetching classic tote bags in an array of colors.  So, justcheckitout.  You won’t be sorry.

I Jump on Bandwagons Sometimes

I know, I know – Jenna Lyons home from Domino is legit 2.5 years old.  You all have seen it on a babillion other blogs.  But this toasty blog is suppose to be kind of like a virtual journal for me and sister Sal soooo, “Dear diary, I’m posting on these images of the breath-taking home of Jenna because I probably think about it twice a week…”   This home has always commanded my attention.  I love it’s old bones, neutral undertones and the unifying black and yellow that run throughout.  You’d think it’d be a hideous turnout with the color…

This home has always commanded my attention.  I love it’s old bones, neutral undertones and the unifying black and yellow that run throughout.  You’d think it’d be a hideous turnout with the color choices but it just works.  Every ceiling fixture is perfect and every piece of furniture looks well selected but also like they didn’t dwell on every decision… I just picture the decorating process for them being like, “Meh, comfy couch – let’s make it yellow… Oooh I like furry rugs – let’s put them everywhere… Black.  Black is nice… Gimme some stripes somewhere, ok?”  It’s Jenna magic and it will always inspire me.  But I probably won’t let any baby of mine sleep in a black room – that’s just a wee bit too much on the edge.  However, those three little sheep in the fireplace are beyonddd adorable 🙂

stunning silhouettes

I am beyond obsessed with these whimsical silhouettes I found via Style/SWOON here.  The talent behind these beauties is Charmaine Olivia, an obviously extremely talented artist out of San Francisco who happens to have an Etsy shop.   After a little research on her website, I learned that Charmaine Olivia is a self-taught painter.  Whoa.  Self taught?  I took art lessons for a good part of my younger days and was never capable of anything near this stuff.  Just goes to show you that some people are natural born artists, musicians, athletes, what have you.  I also learned that the…

Check out this “Deer Wearing Gym Socks” painting of hers that I found.  Perfect for a sports-obsessed, Texas-boy like my boyfriend.  Don’t you think?
