We’ve got mad respect for people with amazing eyes for interiors – not everyone has a taste level that can yield a lovely blog filled with day-to-day design and style inspiration but Gabrielle Savoie of Savvy Home does just that.  Her mantra of “tasteful but affordable living” is what keeps her blog high on our list of everyday reading…  Gabrielle also has a winning and down-to-earth personality – visible through her consistent posts “Delightful Daily” and “Gab Loves”.  Just like her blog, she is beautiful and timeless but with an edge šŸ™‚  P.S. how ridiculously cool is it that she moved from Canada to Australia?!  Jealousy.  We feel very lucky to count her as a blogging buddy and are beyond thrilled that she is here today sharing what She Wishes She Was Wearing!

QUESTIONS of STYLE:

.Describe your personal style in five words or less:  Elegant, edgy, casual, understated, smart.

.Who/What inspires your personal style, influencing what you’re drawn to and what you end up wearing?  I get most of my inspiration from Pinterest and blogs. I’m not a fashion blogger so I’m no expert, but I’ve noticed that the more fashion inspiration I see daily, the less mistake purchases I make. It’s all about knowing what you want and how to pull it together. I also pull some ideas from interior design: color schemes, textures, fabrics, etc. It’s all a bit related.

.What is an item you cannot live without or what are some of your wardrobe essentials?  I couldn’t live without my Dior sunglasses. They follow me everywhere because in any daylight, I’m the biggest squinter. My other staples are my Jerome Dreyfuss leather jacket (a gift from my mom), my collection of LBDs (all life-savers), my Nine West Beeout Black Suede Pumps (flat comfort in heel format), a black wrap-top from Australian designer David Lawrence (looks great no matter how PMS you feel!), and any good pair of jeans (which you’ll find me wearing 9 days out of 10)!

.What is your most recent purchase?  I’ve mostly shopped furniture and home accessories but I did make a couple of J.Crew purchases when I was in Florida last including a black cafe capri pant, a pair of black sailor shorts (I swear I don’t only wear black but I guess my staples tend to be black…), a striped sequin top (similar) and a double crystal brulée necklace.

.Where have you found some of your most treasured style items?  My mom’s closet! That’s where I got my first (and only) pair of Louboutins, my Moschino sequin top, and a few other classic staples. Consignment stores come in close second because they are just like my mom’s closet, only slightly more expensive. In Paris I discovered Tara Jarmon for feminine dresses and comfortable heels. Of course there’s my Australian favorites (from living there for so long): Saba, Country Road, Witchery, and Veronika Maine. But all in all, J.Crew and Zara remain my go-to everything.

.What is your go-to jewelry routine?  My jewellery routine is pretty simple: it always includes my Michael Kors watch and my Calvin Klein hammered metal ring. I’ll occasionally throw in a bangle or two or a necklace in the mix.

.What are some of your make-up must haves?  My Chanel Vitalumiere foundation has been a game-changer, so has my Bobbi Brown gel eye liner and eye brightener. Other than that, I mix it up a bit with different lip glosses, eye shadows and blushes. My Chanel bronzer is also a must especially in winter when I become literally white as a sheet.

.If you could meet any designer who would it be and why?  I think I’d like to meet Kelly Wearstler because we’d probably end up talking decor. Or maybe Kate Spade (even though she’s no longer a designer), so we could talk about her gorgeous house! I know it sounds a bit weird, but I can’t imagine myself talking fashion as I would about interior design. I like to dress to look decent and that’s about it!

.What’s the best style advice you’ve ever given or received?  My mom always said: when in doubt, overdress. It’s always best to be dressed appropriately of course, but there’s nothing worse than showing up at an event underdressed.

Kelly Wearstler + Gabrielle = match made in heaven!  Got to adore a girl who pairs classic (and gorgeous) accessories with boyfriend jeans and an easy tank top… Seriously wishing her outfit choice was on my body today.  Make sure to bookmark Savvy Home for all your interior design inspiration! Thank you, thank you, Gabrielle!  xx

  1. Great interview, I love Gabs! And I couldn't agree more with her mom's advice, my mom always insisted on dressing according to the occasion, and never, ever be under dressed!

  2. Love seeing her over here! And this outfit is sheer perfection. I love the boyfriend jeans with a sexy top.
