I’m guessing that many of you have probably come to know Jacquelyn… The sweet blonde from Toronto, Canada where she works full time in the Interior Design world while also managing her perfectly lovely blog, Lark & Linen.  The reason I say many of you might know her is because like me, you may have stumbled upon her blog and fallen in love with her simplistic (yet rustic and comforting) aesthetic and never stopped reading.  It’s easy to get hooked on a blog that’s filled with such great content – homemade recipes and gorgeous photography – and relatable writing.  Jacquelyn’s…

QUESTIONS of STYLE:

.Describe your personal style in five words or less:  Comfortable, timeless, a hint of whimsy.

.Who/What inspires your personal style, influencing what you’re drawn to and what you end up wearing?  To be completely honest, I dress for comfort more than anything else. I have a number of great pieces but on a daily basis I tend to reach for those items that are worn-in and well-loved. And you better believe I throw on my pj pants the second I get home. Because my boyfriend leaves for work before I’m even out of bed most mornings, I sometimes wonder if he even realizes that I wear actual people clothes (I do. I swear!)

.What is an item you cannot live without or what are some of your wardrobe essentials?  Skinny jeans, great flats and loose/flowy tops. And in the summer? Maxi dresses and soft T’s. This is what you’ll find me in on any given day (when I’m outside the confines of my condo, that is). My uniform, if you will!

.What is your most recent purchase?  I actually just picked up this ASOS clutch, on sale no less!

.Where have you found some of your most treasured style items?  Lately I find I do most of my shopping online (ASOS is my favourite since shipping is always free). But I always score great pieces at Zara, H&M, Club Monaco, Anthropologie and FCUK.

.What is your go-to jewelry routine?  I’m very rarely seen without my diamond ring (my boyfriend gave it to me for Christmas one year), my infinity ring (my little sister and I have matching ones) and my Michael Kors watch. Other than that, I tend to throw on a trendy bracelet here and there, and a few delicate necklaces that I have on rotation.

.What are some of your make-up must haves?  I don’t wear a ton of make-up, but I rarely leave the house without some tinted moisturizer (I love smashbox’s), a hint of bronzer, and a swipe or two of mascara (I’ve been a tried and true MAC Zoom Lash fan for years).

.If you could meet any designer who would it be and why?  Oh gosh – is it totally lame if I say Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen? Yeah – child from the 80’s right here. I grew up adoring them and love what they have made of themselves. Their line, Elizabeth & James, pushes boundaries yet always manages to remain classic and timeless. Something I always strive for with my own wardrobe.

.What’s the best style advice you’ve ever given or received?  When trying things on while shopping: “if it doesn’t make you want to do a happy dance, don’t buy it”. I can’t tell you how much money this little line has saved me! I used to fall victim to purchasing something because it was on super-sale. It would then sit in my closet unused because I wasn’t absolutely in love with it. Now I try to hold out and maybe spend a little more on something that makes me want to do a little jig in the dressing room. It definitely takes longer to build a wardrobe this way, but it’s well worth it!

Wanting to meet the Olsen twins – genius.  But her style advice is even better… Told you we were lucky to have this girl here with us today!! Now go drool over Lark & Linen. Thank you so much, Jacquelyn! xx

Shopping Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale | BEAUTY!

July 25, 2012

Probably the funniest part of our entire Nordstrom shopping excursion was that we ended up stocking up on a bunch of new NARS makeup that wasn’t even on sale.  We were tired and wanted to sit and Aaron’s makeup chair at the NARS counter was just the place to do that after our long day.  Little did we know that he was quite the expert at curing all of our beauty woes.  Lets just say that well be paying him more visits in the future.  It’s always nice to learn from the people who know best.     Nordstrom did…

Nordstrom did the best job at selecting beauty items to put in their Anniversary sale this year.  I was seriously wishing I didn’t already own a Clairsonic because that orange color is so screaming cool.  Feeling the same way about the Sultra Bombshell which they also had on sale.  If you want to know our one secret to getting the wavy/curly hair we always sport – it’s the Bombshell.  Once you buy it you’ll never go back to anything else.

Both Molly and I felt like they did a great job at stocking the beauty sale with things everyone loves and needs.  Like Diptyque candles, Philosophy products (the Amazing Grace scent is so light and pretty), and Butter London Nail Sets (polish + lippy and catwalk primer).  If you ever wanted to try NARS products, they have the perfect set of all of the favorites including their Orgasm blush and Turkish Delight lipgloss.  This would make a fun gift!  We were beyond obsessed with the amazing packaging that MAC came up with this year.  Loving this makeup bag and brush set designed by Julie Verhoeven.  Lately I have been turned on to Bulgari’s Omnia Crystalline scent.  If you haven’t already tried it you must get a sample next time you’re out.  It is my new favorite hands down.  Very light and great for every day wear.

Things we learned while shopping the sale: neon jeans are kind of hard to photograph under florescent lights and don’t exactly go with everything, get to Nords early and be prepared to stay all day (start in shoes!), and shopping every department of the sale is amazing and exhausting.  Sometimes you just need a little nap to recover.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped us at Nordstrom that day.  Bronwyn in shoes, Abbey in clothes, Aaron in makeup.  Our day would not have run as smoothly without the great customer service and help we received.  It really does make all the difference.

Oh heyyyyy, boyfriend

July 24, 2012

I have way too many clothes in my closet – and I’m the first to recognize that when it comes down to it, there is not one more thing that I need.  But I want a pair of boyfriend jeans.  I’ve got skinnies, match-sticks, wide-legs, high-waisted, and boot-leg denim galore but I’m lacking a slouchy pair of boyfriends and… I want ’em.  I blame this desire on Alicia (thanks girl!).  And seeing Sheridan in her bf pair on Sunday (Bechelorette viewing party – yeah, it happened) makes me feel like I neeeeed some of my own. So I did what…

So I did what any self-respecting clothes hoarder would do – I went a looking for options.  And I found some good ones.  I like the ripped up medium wash ‘Aiden’ pair by J Brand best (but really, there are a lot of color and fit options for me to think about.  Anyone have a fave pair I need to check out?

Shopping Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale | CLOTHES!

July 24, 2012

Annddd we’re back again with our favorites from the Nordy’s annual Anniversary Sale, but this time we’re talking about clothes.  More than anything we found so many pretty blouses that both of us would love to add to our closets.  I truly feel like you can never have enough pretty blouses for the fall.  They are so versatile and can be easily dressed up or down and double as work wear as well as something for a night out.  I always feel like I am short on tops when the fall season rolls around!   Equipment’s signature blouse in this…

Equipment’s signature blouse in this animal print is such a fun twist on a classic.  I love how sheer it is and then length of it gives you plenty of options – tucked in, or tied up depending on the day.  Both of us were literally drooling over the Elizabeth and James Chantel Leather Trimmed Blouse.  I mean, just look at those detials – leather cuffs, people.  Another great classic option was L’AGENCE’s Star Print – the teeny tiny stars are just perfect and the shirt would be a regular for fall (especially with some high-waisted jeans!).  Lastly in the way of blouses and actually not on the sale, was this black Trouve Faux Leather Bib Top.  The flowy style + the leather detailing are right up my alley.  The short sleeves are great for the milder fall weather we have in Texas, too.

If I had to pick an absolute favorite from the clothing it would hands down be DVF’s Ahiga Bis Oversized Dolman Sweater.  I would literally live in this all season long and pair it with everything from skinny pants to a short mini skirt.  The hint of cashmere made it unbelievable soft and I loveed the back detail.  I will probably be stalking this sweater for the next few months and then finally bite the bullet and purchase.

Yes, yes strangely enough we did find a pretty attractive North Face jacket while scouring the racks, the Caroluna Jacket.  The jacket was so good looking in person and looked even better on.  If you’re like me, you’re always wishing you owned something casual like this to throw on when its colder out for running to the gym or store.  Some things (stretch pants and tennis shoes) just don’t look right in the colder months with a nicer wool coat, and this would absolutely fit the bill.

And then of course there were the accessories.  Graphic and cozy scarves (who doesn’t love scarves?), tons of sunglasses, Rebecca Minkoff Python iPhone cases (loving the blue version), and killer fall bags by Pour la Victoire (I die for all things orange), Diane Von Furstenberg and Rebecca Minkoff.  All in all I’d say the clothing selection had a little bit of everything and left me longing for cooler temperatures [and a bigger bank account]!
