It can sometimes be a challenge to find unique designers that stand out as “original” among the commercialized labels many of us (myself included) easily gravitate towards… We see something we like but don’t recognize the name behind it and it’s easy to question the quality of the product. Before you throw in the towel on your search for lovely things by independent designers and artisans, you need to visit my latest discovery: Vuela. Vuela – which means “to fly” in Spanish – is a well assorted online boutique that offers beautiful pieces from hard-to-find designers. It is a blend of the owner Marji’s love of travel and design and a place to showcase designers from around the world.
I’ve already gone through and found my three favorite designers from Vuela’s offerings of bags, accessories, and home goods – all under-the-radar but with a prestigious amount of press:
.Nancybird is an Australian-based accessories line by designer Emily Wright. You’ll love her collection of soft scarves and small bags (like this darling backpack) that offer a hand printed, watercolor-like feel. I’m especially crazy for her creative use of textiles and leathers… It’s not easy to blend both without making things look patchworky and Emily just nails it.
.Trois Petits Points is a jewelry line based in France and the work of Emilie Despaux. You know how I feel about dainty jewelry so it’s no surprise that I gravitated to her light, feminine designs. My favorite pieces of hers are the enameled lockets – an updated version of such an iconic design – I’d love to have one to store a photo inside! You may have seen Trois Petits Points when it was featured on Design*Sponge a couple of years ago Emilie’s pieces are simple enough to wear every day but beautiful enough to stand out.
.Ellen Truijen is the namesake leather goods line of hard-to-find bags. A Dutch designer, Ellen’s handbags have been featured in magazines such as Elle, Lucky, and Glamour… The classic designs and rich leathers make her bags standouts in a market saturated by logos and hardware. A little bird told me that the bags look even more beautiful the more they are “broken in” and that the rich patena they take on from being a go-to bag is what makes them so special! I’m drooling over the Mommy Dearest Bag…
There are many more blog-worthy pieces and designers on Vuela but I had to narrow it down somehow! Be sure to check out the boutique and stop by their blog for more prettiness! I have a feeling that they will be getting in some pretty stellar stuff this fall
And guess what else: when you “like” Vuela Boutique on Facebook you will receive updates and be allerted about special promotions… Like their current 10% off promotion when you use the code “SOCIAL” at check out and the spectacular Labor Day weekend sale they will be having! Super ideal…
