Doesn’t Feel Like Friday

September 28, 2012

Yesterday felt like Friday – probably because I was so, so looking forward to the mama getting in town – but today feels like a Tuesday.  And the day has been dragging on forever – probably because I’m at work and the mama and sister are bouncing around town doing all kinds of fun things without me. Just kidding. I’m honestly not even bitter that I’m missing out… I’m just so excited that the weekend is finally here and that Sally and I get to spend it with one of our favorite people! (we never, ever have our mom all to ourselves so it’s a pretty epic trip for her and us)

Hope you all enjoy the weekend time!

Hellooo Friday!  I cannot tell you guys how happy M and I both are that the weekend is finally here.  Our precious mama came in last night for a weekend visit and we get to have her to ourselves allll weekend long.  There are big plans to shop (a little), eat at yummy restaurants, see a movie, get our nails done, and visit the Dallas Arboreatum’s Chihuly Exhibit.  Woo hoo!  Cannot wait.  With rain in the forecast for this weekend, I am completely craving comfy clothes.  (I’ve told you all about my obsessed with comfy clothes, right!?)  The sweater and…

Mama Knows Best

When I pinned this picture of Gwyneth last week, my mind immediately went to our mom and a bit of fashion advice she told me a couple of years ago.  The woman is full of advice that I like to store in my back pocket and pull out whenever I need it.  Like the time Molly and I were begging her to buy us rhinestone “Bebe” shirts in highschool.  “You know girls, not everything has to be skin tight”.  I am still convinced that was her nice way of saying, omg these shirts are hideously ugly/trashy/overpriced and I cannot believe…

I am still convinced that was her nice way of saying, omg these shirts are hideously ugly/trashy/overpriced and I cannot believe my daughters find them “cute”.  God – how embarassing that we actually liked those.  If only we listened to her!  Limited Too was the same story – we were never allowed to shop there.  Needless to say, my childhood certainly wasn’t ruined by that rule.  Thanks mama:)

Back to present day here and I’m obsessed over yet another outfit Gwyneth puts together.  This time whats catching my eye is her amazing red Rag and Bone boots.  “I love a good red shoe, its such a great neutral and you will have it in your closet forever”, she said to me a few years back in the Stuart Weitzman store.  Once again, mama knows best.  This must by why she constantly put us in matching red rubber-toed Keds, leather t-strap mary janes, and sandals throughout our childhood.  (I really hope you’re loving the visuals on these)

The funny thing is that I have really never been a big fan of wearing the color red.  I literally have two red pieces hanging in my entire closet.  I have always felt that it was such a harsh color against my light hair and skin, but red shoes I can definitely do.  With Gwyneth’s look they literally make her entire outfit.  A classic grey tee and jeans are instantly taken to the next level with those red booties and I’m ready to jump on board.

How fitting that our guest blogger this week is none other than Anna of Tulip Louise, the very style blogger we have the honor of being in a “Style Standoff” with on the Layla Grayce blog!  We could not ask to be in better company – Anna is one sweet girl and a serious talent when it comes to styling others (she always seems to be working on some amazing project) and herself.  It’s not hard to be envious of her incredible taste… And I’m willing to bet that any fellow fan of her blog could tell you that she…

And of course, we are so thrilled to have her here today, with a burgandy and blue/green She Wishes She Was Wearing look that is absolutely incredible…

QUESTIONS of STYLE:

.Describe your personal style in five words or less:  Sophisticated, femme, vintage, rock-and-roll elegance

.Who/What inspires your personal style, influencing what you’re drawn to and what you end up wearing?  Three people i am currently stalking are Natalie Joos + Mira Duma + TTH.  i’m also a m-a-j-o-r magazine girl; my favorites that i look to for trend and editorial research are Elle, VOGUE, and W.

.What is an item you cannot live without or what are some of your wardrobe essentials?  Zara waxed skinnies, cozy Vince sweaters, vintage jewels, sunnies, Macbook, and my Mophie battery pack.

.What is your most recent purchase?  A yummy vintage DVF sweatshirt, from an airstream shop called the Grey Dog.

.Where have you found some of your most treasured style items?  I consider my most treasured items to be tucked away in my jewelry box — most of which have been found at a vintage store called Mae’s Emporium.

.What is your go-to jewelry routine?  More is more.

.What are some of your make-up must haves?  L’Oreal Voluminous mascara, Visine, bold lipsticks {by either MAC or Revlon}, Laura Mercier concealer, and Chanel pressed powder.

.If you could meet any designer who would it be and why?  Great question!  I was fortunate enough to have my “big moment” during NYFW in February —  being invited backstage at the Oscar de la Renta show was totally surreal and something I will not soon forget.  On a different note- – a designer to watch is a local friend of mine, Leslie Pennel, the heart and soul behind ESQUE.  I have collected quite a few of her pieces in the past year or so and am just waiting for them to be considered collectors items.

.What’s the best style advice you’ve ever given or received?  “Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn.”  Pardonnez moi, but it couldn’t be more true!

She hit the nail on the head with that genuine style advice!  Be sure to stalk up her blog if you haven’t already – you will love Tulip Louise and Anna so much 🙂  Thank you so much, Anna!  xx

Accessory Concierge

Accessory Concierge – the name already makes you feel completely taken care of, doesn’t it?  Not unlike a real life concierge, Accessory Concierge is a company that prides itself on being an accessible one-stop-shop for the new accessories most all of us crave to complete a look and feel on-trend. They function much like a boutique auction but with one twist – the auction is completely based on Facebook.  Each Monday afternoon at 11:00am CST and Wednesday night at 8:00pm CST, Accessory Concierge will post images every few minutes of various accessories available for purchase…  Once you “like” their page on…

Each Monday afternoon at 11:00am CST and Wednesday night at 8:00pm CST, Accessory Concierge will post images every few minutes of various accessories available for purchase…  Once you “like” their page on Facebook you will automatically have access to the live auctions and see the items up for bid on your mini feed.  Accessibility never looked so chic!  All you have to do is find something amazing that you can’t live without (and trust us, it’s not hard with the kind of merchandise they curate) and bid to win by leaving a comment on the item with “sold” and your email address (and OOT if you live out of Texas, so you won’t be charged shipping!).  If you’re a winner you will receive an invoice via PayPal the next day and your new accessory will be mailed to you as soon as you pay…

Unlike some of the other accessory auctions that are also on Facebook, Accessory Concierge is unique in that they feature designer products in their auctions every few weeks.  Names like Amanda Sterett (a favorite Dallas designer!) and Mary Gold mingle with up-and-coming Etsy designers and designer-inspired pieces.  All the items up for bid, with a designer name attached or not, are gorgeous and fall within the range of classic to trendy to fit any style.  So what’s the catch… How can they sell these goods at great prices for us to scoop up while we are doing our daily Facebook business?  Because they don’t have a storefront, Accessory Concierge can offer fans and followers the best products and the most reasonable prices.  Each item they post comes with a description, price, and the quantity available until the sale ends…  It’s so genius we wish we had thought of it!  You’ll never want to buy another scarf, bag, watch, or jewelry piece anywhere else again.

Accessory Concierge was kind enough to give us a sneak peek of a few of the items that will be up for auction TONIGHT and we couldn’t wait to share a teaser with you all!  So be sure to “like” Accessory Concierge right now (there are even more popping up as preview for the sale tonight) and then set an alarm on your phone, tell you mama your sister and your friends, that the auction starts tonight at 8:00pm CST. The quantity available will be in the description and the first people to comment with sold win the item (ex: quantity available is 5, the first 5 to comment win).  But leave a comment on something you love even if all the units have been allocated to other bidders – if a bidder does not pay their invoice in 24 hours the item rolls to the next bidder(s) in line.  Pretty exciting, right?  Good luck and happy bidding…
