The Shopping Habit

October 26, 2012

It is obvious that I would much rather be at home today on the couch than working?  I mean, I love my job – but I love lounging way more.  I’m pretty much on the same page with Molly (in regards to her post today) with feeling like I need some re-charge time. Lots of lounge wear, and comfy casual stuff has been catching my eye lately… Can we talk about the Marc Jacobs Mouse Slippers?!  I mean… Their eyes are closed!  They are adorable!  They are completely unnecessary but also completely necessary.  And I have Bradley to thank for…

I feel like a broken record on Fridays – “this week has been the longest,” or “I’m so tired, this week ate me alive,” and “OMG, TGIFFFF.”  For reals though, something has got to give…  I am burning both ends all day every day and feel completely wiped out. Aside from that, Sally and I had some nice soulful sister talk last night.  Out of nowhere we were both like, “we really need to start putting ourselves in other people’s shoes before we say negative things.”  It was nice.  A nice reminder.  We also did some DIY reupholstering on our…

Aside from that, Sally and I had some nice soulful sister talk last night.  Out of nowhere we were both like, “we really need to start putting ourselves in other people’s shoes before we say negative things.”  It was nice.  A nice reminder.  We also did some DIY reupholstering on our dining room chairs… Which kept us up nice and late but they sure are looking nice.

That’s all I got – head over to The Coveteur and look at Kelly Wearstler’s “feature” (what else do you call it, The Coveteur is stepping up their game so much and so frequently that this 2.0 version is kind of making my brain hurt even more).  None the less, it’s pretty freaking inspiring and as per usual, all the photos are frame-worthy.  I die.

P.S. A major THANK YOU to DailyBuzz Style for the incredible solo feature – you guys are too kind!  Seriously blushing to be one of your “heart” blogs…

Styled by Erin | House of Earnest

October 25, 2012

I don’t want to say Erin is crafty because sometimes that makes people think of scrapbooking parties and overly themed birthday parties.  But she is extremely talented at pulling off her own “do it yourself” projects that look so perfect and well executed you would swear that Martha Stewart herself had implemented them.  Erin’s blog, House of Earnest, is her platform for sharing her love of home décor, entertaining ideas and tips, DIY projects, and party planning schemes (sans parochial themes).  I’m not kidding when I say that my jaw has literally dropped while reading some of her posts… Her…

QUESTIONS of STYLE:

.Describe your personal style in five words or less: Simple, Classic, and heavy on Accessories.

.Who/What inspires your personal style, influencing what you’re drawn to and what you end up wearing?  I always think about what I would think about an outfit 25 years from now.  Would I still think it’s flattering? I try to create a timeless look that has hints of trend, but still fits and flatters.  Trend should not outweigh fit.

.What is an item you cannot live without or what are some of your wardrobe essentials?  I cannot live without a classic blue oxford.  I wear it with everything from lace skirts to black skinnies. A great bag is also essential.  I splurge on a really great versatile piece that I use constantly.  I’ve been carrying this Louis Vuitton bag for 4 years.

.What is your most recent purchase?  A black and white polka dot Alice and Olivia sweater. I love that the dots have black rhinestones inside!

.Where have you found some of your most treasured style items?  It’s so hard to narrow down!  I pick pieces that are flattering regardless of the shop.  I’ve been known to shop everywhere from Saks to Target, it all depends on the outfitting.  I always hit Madewell for excellent flats – I have 4 different colors and patterns that I basically wear every day.  My most treasured pieces are usually found at an amazing price.  I bought a leather jacket with a fur collar last year at Nordstrom Rack and it’s been my go-to statement piece for fall and winter.  It makes any outfit awesome!

.What is your go-to jewelry routine?  I’m big on jewelry.  Most days I wear the same stack of Ippolita rings with my wedding band, a fun watch, and a Kate Spade necklace that reads, ‘ooh la la’, but for weekends, I’ll always be wearing a big statement necklace with an armful of bracelets.

.What are some of your make-up must haves?  Benetint from Benefit is a necessity.  It gives the perfect rosy cheeks and looks great on lips.  I am also a huge fan of the Benefit ‘They’re Real’ mascara.  It really makes lashes so full and long!

.If you could meet any designer who would it be and why?  I think it would be Isabel Marant.  I think it’s fascinating that the majority of the fashion world hangs on her every move to determine where they’re headed next.  She’s a true trailblazer.

.What’s the best style advice you’ve ever given or received?  A past boss of mine always said that confidence can make or break an outfit.  Wear what you’re comfortable and confident in and it will show.  Also, smile.

I loved seeing snippets of her outfits and things that caught her eye while she was just in China – thank goodness for Instagram stalking.  Make sure you bookmark House of Earnest to keep your inspiration, DIY fix 🙂  Thank you so much, Erin!  xx

Music on My Mind…

October 24, 2012

After going to The Sheepdogs concert last night with my boyfriend, I’ve got music on the brain.  Particularly great, live music.  It has been since May (!!) since I was at a concert last, and let me tell you, I’ve missed having a little live music in my life.  My current favorite is from The Avett Brothers new CD, The Carpenter, and I can’t seem to stop listening to it.  Avett is one of those bands that I will probably never get sick of.  Not to mention that they are ahmmazzzingg in concert. Emily Rosendahl

As much as I can say that I lust over designer handbags, there is really nothing like buying something hand-made by an artisan.  Emily Rosendahl and her handbag collection got on my radar through Samantha of Could I Have That? blog… The hair on hide and natural leather bags, clutches and wallets provide the most incredible juxtaposition when styled with just about anything and Sam never fails to make me jealous with how she pairs her collection of Emily’s goods with everything from flowy dresses to colored jeans.  I especially love how the whipstitch details give the bags an authentic…

Raise your hand if you want to make one of Emily’s creations yours. Okay, me too.  Which is why I was so pleasantly surprised to see that Emily is offering a 20% off discount on her site right now – available till the 28th (this upcoming Sunday)…  She just made my decision to get one her clutches very, very easy!  Can’t wait to pair it with my black leather jacket and flared jeans when it comes in.
