As I mentioned in Sunday’s Around Here post, last Friday Sally and I got to hang out with our new found friend Angela Scott at her Dallas showroom/office/store. If I had to sum up the designs of The Office of Angela Scott, Angie, and her showroom in one word it would be juxtaposition (which happens to be a fave word of mine). Different concepts that play off each other to create a unique balance. For example: when I first walked into Angie’s space the first thing I noticed was the feminine wall color (a blush pink) and luxe wood wall cabinetry organized with shoes and shoe boxes. While I was taking in the sight of how perfectly all the shoes (gah, the shoes!) were displayed I realized, “Oh, that’s some pretty serious rap music pumping through this space.” Angie tried to apologize for the music choice but I quickly told her how much I loved it—I felt like I was getting the true essence of her and the brand.
When you first see the shoes you might think “cute” but they can also seem a little punk, funky, and even lady-like. It’s all those elements—coupled with bespoke hand-made quality and the finest leathers and details—that make them unlike any other foot ware I’ve had the pleasure of putting on mah feets.
Angie herself is a soulful straight shooter. She’s the real deal… No masking what she’s passionate about or what she feels about her brand. Hearing her talk (modestly) about all the skills she’s acquired and work she’s done to get The Office where it is now in just two years was unreal. I’m a sucker for great back stories (where the inspiration comes from, how things are made, etc.) but I love and admire true go-getters that learn and do it all. Angie, will you be my life coach?
