The Stocking Up Sale

February 25, 2014

I have definitely had my eye on a few things after regular pursual of the site – all of which I could definitely use and would make practical purchases. These heels have been on my radar since they first came out last fall. I have a pair of black bootie-type heels (very similar to these) that I have literally worn to death, but I have always wished that I had a similar pair in a nude color. These fit the bill for sure – a great transitional shoe and the color is pure perfection. Also on my wishlist? I really…

I have a pair of black bootie-type heels (very similar to these) that I have literally worn to death, but I have always wished that I had a similar pair in a nude color. Also on my wishlist? I really great pair of black jeans. I don’t own a pair of classic black jeans that fit perfectly and am dying to invest in some. I’ve been wanting to try Rag and Bone’s denim because I feel like everyone loves them, but the selection is so vast that I’m overwhelmed in choosing a pair based off of reviews. Anyone have any insight to their denim and/or which style of theirs is a favorite? Skinny? Legging? Plush legging? Soo many choices!

A few other things that have caught my eye… A pretty white blouse (can’t get enough of those!), darling eyelet, and some ruffles from Cynthia Rowley. Now I just need Molly to return home so we can make a purchase together:)

On another note – big apologies for the unplanned blog sabatical that I took over the past week or so. With Molly gone and me watching Blue in between working full time and Blue getting the stomach flu, things have been beyond hectic around here.

P.S. Have you seen these from the new arrivals at Madewell?! so. good.

Duck & Waffle

February 22, 2014

Before Mary and I left for our trip, a little bird told us that we had to eat at Duck & Waffle. I like waffles and the duck situation sounded similar to chicken & waffles (a delicious delicacy I’ve indulged in many a time) so we said we would hit it up. Oh my gosh—the restaurant has been one of my favorite meals from this trip, hands down. Located on the 40th floor of Heron Tower in Shoreditch, Duck & Waffle is the highest restaurant in London and you get to look out over the whole city while you eat…

Located on the 40th floor of Heron Tower in Shoreditch, Duck & Waffle is the highest restaurant in London and you get to look out over the whole city while you eat the most incredible food. We lucked out and managed to have a perfect sunny, clear morning today—ideal for looking out over and snapping pictures. If you visit D&W, please do yourself a solid and get the bacon wrapped dates. And order of the duck and waffles, obviously.

Another favorite part of the trip? Splurging on my first big-gal bag today at Saint Laurent. I’m in love.

“Can I stay for awhile?” “You can stay forever.” Any fans of the 1999 movie Notting Hill? If not, you should find it on Netflix and watch immediately because it is a delight. And if you already have the Julia Roberts + Hugh Grant film on your top twenty favorites (like me) you’ll understand why I loved getting to stroll around Notting Hill all day yesterday. Smile plastered on my face like a fool, reciting movie quotes with Mary, picking out our favorite flats and saying, “Hello, I live here,” one too many times. The area is so freaking quant…

Smile plastered on my face like a fool, reciting movie quotes with Mary, picking out our favorite flats and saying, “Hello, I live here,” one too many times. The area is so freaking quant and adorable that it’s like being on a movie set…sweet shops, neighborhood gardens, so many shades of white homes with fantastic doors and then great streets of colorful flats right next to one another. If you’re gluten free you must go to Granger & Co. for their homemade g-free bread and fantastic people watching or hit up Otto Pizza for gluten free pizza and choice American-brewed beers. We didn’t stumble upon any travel book shops while in NH but browsed and window shopped some very cute boutiques and stores.

To make your heart melt just a little bit, one last Notting Hill quote: “”For June who loved this garden from Joseph who always sat beside her.” Some people do spend their whole lives together.”

How to Stroll

February 20, 2014

Things I’ve learned while in London: chips (french fries) can be eaten at every meal, people feed the birds, bars are pubs and many claim to be the oldest, and there is an art form to walking. As we were walking to The Grenadier (the cutest tucked away pub in the world) last night, Mary said to me, “I’m going to teach you the art of strolling.” That’s probably the nicest way anyone has ever commented on my fast-paced walk before and because she said it in such a nice way I immediately slowed down. Mary went on to explain that slower strides let you take in the surroundings, how even if you’re going down a familiar street there is always something new to see, and that sometimes it’s worth it to take our time. Just one of many reasons why I am loving traveling with this girl…she’s got me strolling.

Yesterday was packed from beginning to end. We lunched around Hyde Park, picked up colorful macarons which we taste tested with hot chocolate while sitting and people watching in Hyde Park, then hit up Buckingham Palace (saw the “Changing of the Guards” – such unplanned luck!), Westminster Abbey, House of Parliament, Big Ben, and the London Eye. So surreal to see all these places in person…each one is more gorgeous than the next. After the long day, our night started at Grenadier pub where we had a delicious London-esque dinner of bangers and mash (so good). A tube ride to SoHo for dessert from Princi and drinks at the adorable Jackson + Rye and we were ready to call it a night.

London Rain and Shine

Don’t be fooled by the sunshine and aviators in the photos—my rain jacket and boots came in handy yesterday when Mary I encountered a few London showers at the start of our second day in the city. Not that any of those places are particularly funny (they’re historical landmarks and really so fascinating and beautiful) but the two of us are really enjoying our ourselves…rain or shine.

My favorite part of yesterday was the cozy pub we started our night at in Notting Hill. The Churchill Arms is stuffed with vintage memorabilia on the inside (hanging from the ceiling and all over the walls) and covered in lush hanging flower baskets on the outside. So cool and quaint and the perfect place to have a few beers before we met up with a fun group for dinner. We’re already planning on heading back to the pub before we leave so that we can have some of their famous Thai food.
