Bedroom Office

The desk I sit each day to work is about four feet from the foot of my bed. Not the most ideal set up for a home office but for now, the bedroom office works. Having limited floor space to work with but needing a big work surface for all my “stuff” I scoured the internet for months to find the perfect desk. The desk I sit each day to work is about four feet from the foot of my bed. Not the most ideal set up for a home office but for now, the bedroom office works. Having limited floor space to work with but needing a big work surface for all my “stuff” I scoured the internet for months to find the perfect desk. In my old apartment I had used a console table from West Elm (no longer available) as my desk and it worked well but wasn’t deep enough for much besides my desktop Mac and Sally and I repurposed it our mainroom to sit below our TV in our new place. I knew I wanted something pretty that I could use for years down the road and although I needed it to be simple and clean I didn’t want something all-white and typical. When my search landed on Wisteria’s Glass Desk I knew I had my dream desk.

Pros: the work surface is huge, it’s the perfect height for my current chair and will still work when and if I ever get this dream desk chair, and because it’s glass it doesn’t visually take up that much space in my small bedroom. Cos: no drawers to hide things in and being see-through means seeing cords and coming up with desk-top storage solutions. I’m a nut and seeing wires and cords drives me crazy so I bundled mine up into one strand secured with twist ties and hid them in this white cable box that sits on the floor. Because it’s glass it does show smudges, finger-prints, and dust quickly and easily but I’ve become used to it and just dust it constantly.

Working from home isn’t always easy (especially when your bed is within reach and the TV is in the other room) but honestly, having a desk I love has made all the difference in my productivity. Most days I work half the day still in my jammers and then hop into workout gear before going to an Exhale class, then come back to sit some more. Basically, it’s rare that I look as put together in the pics above. But Blue Moonbeam is often cuddled in my lap (savoring this before he gets way to big to fit in this spot), looking up at me from below the glass, or cozy beneath my feet and he’s the best distraction I have. I’ve got a lot of “stuff” on my work surface—a collection of cute but functional items from my mama, odds and ends I collect as inspiration, things from friends that make me smile, and favorite books.

My hope is that the next place I live in has a separate office so I can keep my bedroom and work separate and get file cabinets (love these!) and the like for additional storage…till then, I’m more than happy with the set-up I have.

  1. I’m actually searching for a desk so this was a great post! That desk is perfect since it’s glass. While I love how it visibly doesn’t take up that much room, it would have been even better if it had drawers. Cute though! & I love how your puppy made an appearance- adorable!

  2. A see-through desk makes all the difference when you’re working with a small space! My office space is currently in my toddler’s room (who is totally a welcome distraction) so I know how hard it is to work from home. Hopefully we’ll both get the office of our dreams someday!

  3. Yes yes yes!!! These are my favorite kinds of posts. It is so fun to see how you style things in your own home, and to see where you are typing from. Looks like a pretty perfect work station, but I’d have a difficult time not crawling back in bed to snooze. Thanks for sharing- would love to see more of the new sister shack!

  4. I love your work area – so lovely yet so unique to you! I have those CB2 file cabinets in mint at work. I love them and highly recommend them. They add a fun pop of color to the room. :)

  5. Love your work station! I love to “be a minimalist” but it never ends up happening because I like to show off all the stuff I love. You did that in a great way with your desk!
