Cover x Gray Malin

I used to be a hardcore sun-worshiper when I moved to Dallas four years ago. Summer weekends meant 5-6 hours a day at the pool…and even though I wore sunscreen, I wanted to get tan, tan, tan. I still like the look of bronze skin but I am much more conscious about limiting my sun time, re-applying spf (I use this for my face/neck and this for my body), taking good care of my skin, and using sunless tanning products like this and this. Sally and I learned about cover, a sun-conscious swimwear brand based in Dallas, about a year…

Sally and I learned about cover, a sun-conscious swimwear brand based in Dallas, about a year ago and we have since become friends with founder Lisa Moore (read Sally’s blog post here!). Lisa is as passionate about style as she is about sun protection and her collection is comprised of gorgeous bikinis, one-piece suits, swim shirts, and cover-ups that all utilize cover’s specially constructed fabric made of highly opaque micrfofibers. The luxurious swim jersey fabric has a UPF 50+ certification, meaning it blocks 98% of UV rays. Having a physical (not chemical), protection you can wear is an easy and good-looking way to keep covered up and all cover pieces will maintain their sun protection, even with daily wears and washes.

Did I mention that Lisa is also an avid art collector? Her passion for art expanded from her personal life to her profession line as she has collaborated with notable artists. Last year she worked with Richard Phillips to apply a surfer photo of his to a sleeveless shell. This summer, she teamed up with famed areal photographer Gray Malin to place two of his Á la Plage photos onto the same Protec Swim Jersey® fabric used with all the cover pieces. I was lucky enough to assist Lisa in arranging the long-sleeved swim suit and long-sleeved swim shirt patterns onto the Gray Malin Manly Beach Swimmers and St. Tropez Tahiti Club images that were then given to her production team and factory as a template for cutting and construction. The two of us had a little too much fun during the trial and error process and as a thank you, Lisa gifted me with both cover pieces. Wearable art that also protects! How did I get so lucky? Now when I chase my little water baby Blue Moonbeam around the pool I only have to apply half the spf to my body that I normally do…
