Taking my Friday night to finally get up the final post of my travel. Nyborg was the last part of our trip and possibly my favorite. A train ride from Copenhagen took us to this city in central Denmark and my pictures can even do it justice because it oozed charm and felt like a comforting hug after the hustle and bustle from the earlier part of the trip. There is an ancient Nyborg Castle but the castle we had the pleasure of being at for the weekend wedding was Holckenhavn Castle. I'm not going to be able to give an accurate rundown of everything that makes the castle special but what hit home for me is that it has been owned by a member of the same family - the Holck family - since 1672.
I’m not sure I will ever be at a wedding weekend more enchanting then the one in this town, at this castle…from Thursday till early in the morning on Sunday, the festivities were fun, thoughtful, personal, and special. The bride (who looked like a legitimate angel – so stunning) tossed her bouquet after she and the groom finished their receiving line from the Castle’s chapel but only after walking through a shower of rose petals. I learned that a fun Danish tradition is to cut and serve the wedding cake after the ceremony and before the rehearsal dinner. I also learned that Danish weddings last very late into the evening…and extend into the early hours of the morning.
Leaving for the train station to get directly to the airport was hard to do after lots of dancing and drinking but it was so worth it to come home to my Blue Moonbeam. Honestly, if you ever have the opportunity to go to Norway or Denmark, do it. I hope that someday I get the chance to return to both places (and also get to see Sweeden!) but the trip was so special and amazing I know I’ll never forget it.
Boots and booties - they aren't just for cold weather. They're the footwear of choice for music festivals and models off duty, the closed-toe staple that when styled correctly can be worn year-round, and one of the best ways to transition summer pieces into fall. Right now it's warm enough to still be wearing some of our summer dresses but cool enough that we don't want to wear sandals. Boots and dresses = a low-key, effortless pairing and the perfect way to stretch out our summer wardrobe while still getting a fall look. If you don't have a great pair of boots or booties, now is the time to scoop some up…they're a great buy that can be worn now (and later) and the ultimate accessory you'll want and need come fall!
Because shopping for any kind of shoe can be a little overwhelming (over assortments and millions of options) we went to Sole Society to see what kind of selection they had for boots/booties and were pleasantly surprised by the styles and colors available. It’s so nice when you find a shape you love and see that it comes in more than one color option. Choices range from high to low, zippers and buckles or pull-on styles, detailed or minimalistic, stacked or flat heels, casual or more dressy, and rounded or more pointed toes. Impressed? We were. And we were inspired to pick four favorite styles and colors to pair with dresses to show just how easily the boots can be worn now, in the last days of summer, and then also into fall (with the addition of layers!). If boots are really made for walking (and we think they are!) then we picture these pairs walking in style.
Tata Harper's Resurfacing Mask has become a legendary product made famous by beauty gurus and 100% natural skincare seekers around the world. The original mask formula is an ELLE Award Winner (if that helps convince you of its goodness) and we can vouch that it does exactly what it promises: gives you an instant glow. It works like a traditional peel mask to revitalize dull skin while minimizing pores and improving the texture of skin for a smooth, glowing finish. Unlike other peel formulas, this one doesn't cause redness or flakiness - the 10-30 minute application (depending on how sensitive your skin is) soothes rather than creating irritation. The two of us have been hooked on using the refreshing "glow goop" for a while now and were lucky enough to try the Limited Edition Wild Plum version of the mask when it was released this past winter. Now we are doubly lucky because this summer Tata and her team introduced another limited edition resurfacing mask - Soothing Apricot - that's perfect for this season. (read on for a discount!)
Like the Original Resurfacing Mask, the Limited Edition Soothing Apricot Resurfacing Mask gives an instant glow. As if that result isn’t enough, the inclusion of Apricot Stem Cells adds a powerful anti-inflammatory and soothing benefit to the resurfacing treatment by helping to reduce redness, promote an even tone and boost skin tolerance. Pretty prefect for combatting the effects our skin can go through during exposure during the summer months. Also included, ultra-hydrating Coconut Water preserves moisture while helping to decrease skin roughness and boosts cellular renewal. It’s like a drink of water for your skin.
Sound lovely? Good, because it is. While the mask is suitable for all skin types unless you are hypersensitive, the Apricot Resurfacing Mask has been made in a small, limited edition seasonal batch of only 900 jars. Available exclusively online via Tata’s website, we suggest trying to get your hands on some before summer is over – your skin will thank you, we promise! As an extra incentive (not that you really need one, this stuff is that good), Tata is generously giving all A Piece of Toast readers 15% off any purchase with the code PIECEOFLOVE. The code is good from today till Monday (9/1) so hurry and shop!
Happy Tuesday and carpe diem! Or is it "carpe denim?" It's nearly Labor Day and start of fall style is just hanging in the air. I'm craving nothing more than to be able to wear jeans 24/7 but it's still a little too hot in Dallas to do so…I have however been able to test drive the two latest pairs of Rockstar mid-rise jeans I recently picked up from Old Navy and am obsessed (obsessed) with both the black and light-gray washes. The mid-rise has the same great stretch and fit as the original Rockstars but the waistband obviously sits a little higher. At first I was scared they would look like mom jeans on me (no offense to the hot mamas out there!) but the higher waist makes them a) even more comfortable and b) even more flattering because they give your legs a longer look.
In my opinion, nothing can replace the look of a crisp white tee with a pair of jeans. It’s easy, clean, classic and can be made to look dressy, edgy, casual, or anything in between depending on how to accessorize and style the rest of the look. As a self-confessed white t-shirt hoarder, I’m very picky when it comes to fit, quality and price and what Old Navy has to offer in their tee department is on par with all of the aforementioned needs. The vintage style v-neck is so soft and rivals the look of others five times its cost and I love the feminine look of wrap-front tee I got after falling in love with the sleeveless version this summer.
Have I piqued your interest? I hope so – and I do hope you’ll give the mid-rise denim a chance and pick up a few new tees while you’re at it. All jeans and tees are on sale at Old Navy right now!
