Some of the things I love to do when I'm home: raid my mother's kitchen and her closet. I don't know how she does it but her food just tastes better and her clothes scream, "try me!" Ever since Sally and I were in high school we've taken to
swiping borrowing our mamas things...among our favorites are her woven sweater jacket that looks like Missoni (but is just a great imitation) and Chanel bag. Jackets, jewelry, and bags all get raided when we are in town but one part of her closet we can't take advantage of are the shoes. Sal and I aren't her size and it's just really a travesty. We make up for this injustice by thoughtfully adding to our own shoe collections. My latest find are the Fawn pumps by SJP. The collection by Sarah Jessica Parker is exclusive to Nordstrom and after eyeing the designs for months, I finally caved on what I think is a perfect metallic pair.
I guess the heels aren’t technically metallic. The material used is “specchio” leather – the Italian word for mirror. The Fawn style is available in four neutral hues and was just recently introduced in the Specchio Leather and in two colors…I chose the gunmetal over the pretty pink because the dark silver color has a really nice iridescent quality that will most likely go with anything and become a true year-round shoe for me. Besides the color and shiny finish, I really fell for the dramatic pointy toe and black grosgrain ribbon up the back of the heel – the feminine details are a great juxtaposition to the gunmetal color.
Since I brought the new kicks home with me to Kansas City, I felt like it was only right to style them with pieces from my mom’s closet. Mama’s sweater jacket is a cozy compliment to my new faux leather leggings (thank you to Grace for this golden find by Spanx!) and the soft metallic finish on her classic quilted bag goes perfectly with the shine of the pumps. Now if only I could sneak those two items back to Dallas with me…
