It's Wednesday already and tomorrow we're into October - that seems crazy. This week is flying by after being in Florida over the weekend for the wedding of some friends. Weddings are just the best...I love seeing my friends from college as much as I love eating cake and dancing. I may have danced a little too much at this past wedding though because on Sunday morning I woke up with a severely bruised and swollen right foot. My assumption is that I put myself in the way of another dancer and got stepped/stomped on. Normal party injury but amplified x100. I've never broken a bone but said foot looked even worse on Monday so I figured I'd better be safe than sorry and I saw a doctor yesterday to get some x-rays and make sure I wasn't walking on broken bones. Good news! The foot isn't broken but it still looks...disgusting. Lots of black and blueness. Maybe I'll Instagram a photo - it's just that impressive. I think I'll be a little more careful next time I hit a dance floor.
Enough about the shades of blue on my foot – let’s focus on the pretty blues in today’s outfit! I generally feel like black looks better on me than navy (the dark blue seems to always be better on blondes and brunettes) but I loved the shape of this Calypso peasant top and I’m really glad I have it because it’s been ideal for the transitional weather. I’m still sporting white jeans but can’t wait to pair the top with black jeans. The other blue-hued scene stealers here: the Lulu Frost earrings (that go with everythingggg) and Brahmin bag (I’m obsessed with the inky blue shade and shiny texture).
There was a time when Sally and I were a little overly obsessed Sprinkles Cupcakes. The lovely people that work at the Dallas location may or may not have known us by name. We were on some unspoken mission to try as many flavors as possible and take advantage of what was at the time, a little known secret...nearly every day, the Sprinkles releases a secret word via their Twitter account that you can whisper at store locations to receive a free or buy-one-get-one cupcake. Pretty sweet deal, right (pun totally intended)? I can honestly say that we have zero regrets about this gluttonous behavior - we now know our favorite flavors (Dark Chocolate and Red Velvet) and it makes us pretty excited to try new and seasonal flavors.
I visited the Sprinkles ATM in Houston’s Highland Village last week to get a sweet tooth fix and per usual, got Blue some Doggie Cupcakes. If you have one of the pink ATMs in your city and you haven’t visited yet you need to make it a priority. It’s really pretty fun to get a fresh cupcake any time of day and watch the robot arm select and dispense your picks.
I veered from my usual go-to selection to get a Salty Carmel since it seemed like a fall-ish choice. It twas good – though I forgot how the flavor really lives up to the “salty” in it’s name. I think the indulgence may have influenced me to do some at-home baking. Thinking that some banana and pumpkin bread might be coming out of my oven in the coming weeks…I’ve also made a special request that my mama make my favorite Millet Muffins for the home visit Sally and I are making this weekend. Is there anything better than mom’s home cooking? No. Because they cook and bake with all that loooooove (:
Stripes. They aren't just for nautical atmospheres or best in summer heat. Wether horizontal or vertical, used in accessories (and even beauty products) or worn head to toe, stripes are a year-round friend and favorite. As a general rule of thumb, I never pass up a good white or striped t-shirt because without fail, I wear those more than any other shirt in my closet. But t-shirts aside, there are so many good stripes to be had to and I pulled together a round-up of current favorites perfect for the onset of fall.
