Laura Mercier Lips + Art of Setting

December 31, 2015

Greetings from Aspen, Colorado! Molly and I are in this snowy and beautiful place with some of our favorite people to ring in the new year. The last time I was in Colorado during the winter was 2009 so being back here is beyond exciting. I feel like I prepped pretty well for the trip - planning what sweaters and warm coats I would bring and being sure to pack my Sperry Salt Water Boots and a new hat. Having cozy clothes and layers on hand here is must but I also remembered how dry the Colorado climate is in these winter months and I packed some essentials to keep my face and skin hydrated.

Since we got to Aspen two days ago, the group we are traveling with has had a unanimous reaction: super dry lips. Being the good sister, wife and friend that I am, I've been sharing some new and life-changing Laura Mercier rose lip balm and passing around tubes of LM's new lipstick (to the ladies). No one is going to  be sporting cracked and chapped lips on this trip if I can help it! But whether you're in Colorado or a similarly cold environment, the just mentioned lip products are amazing. And with it being New Year's Eve and a big night for delivering kisses, I thought it would be appropriate to share them along with a few other Laura Mercier products I'm wearing and loving...

Infusion de Rose Nourishing Lip Balm: locks in moisture to smooth lips during daytime environmental stressors and conditions and restores softness when worn at night. Key ingredients of Rosehip Seep, Kukui, and Macadamia Seed Oils. The formula is a medium thickness (it doesn’t wear off quickly like other lip balms can) and it smells amazing. I love it because it gives a little shine while providing a huge amount of hydration. It’s become a favorite for everyone on this Aspen trip (girls and guys) and now I’m wishing that I had thought to give some as stocking stuffers this year. At least I’m good at sharing!

Velour Lovers Lip Colour (in Sensual, French Kiss, Coquette, Foreplay and Infatuation): hydrating matte formula that comes in 12 shades (all with provocative names). Mango butter makes it ultra moisturizing and comfortable, and the Super Emollients and Mattifying Powders give a velvety texture and satin matte finish. Easy to apply – very creamy and ultra-precise – and not sticky, tacky, dry or heavy-feeling. The best part is that the high pigment colors are long-wearing and hues stay put even after a few kisses.

Translucent Loose Setting Powder: if you haven’t tried a setting powered after finishing your makeup, I highly suggest adding the practice to your beauty routine and trying this product. The oil-free French “cashmere” powder is translucent (so it’s invisible after being applied) and helps to prolong the wear of makeup. I know what you’re thinking, “won’t this stuff make me look powdery, dry or cake?” Nope. That’s why it’s so great and part of Laura Mercier’s “Art of Setting” philosophy. Putting it on is easy: press a Velour Puff into the powder, rotating the puff to evenly saturate the product, tap the puff on top of your hand to remove unneeded excess powder, then gently press the puff onto your skin in a light, rolling motion. Any excess oil will be absorbs and your makeup will be set for the rest of the day!

Secret Brightening Powder: similar to the Translucent Setting Powder, this product also comes in loose powder formula and is an essential to Laura’s “Art of Setting” philosophy. What makes it different is that in addition to setting your under-eye concealer for a full day of wear, it also brightens the area to give a natural, well-rested and awake look that can’t be beat. The ideal way to apply it is with the Camouflage Powder Brush – just saturate the brush in the powder, gently tap off any excess, hold the brush parallel to your eye and lightly dust under both eyes. You won’t look powdery but you will be getting a lot of questions from friends and strangers about what you’re using to look so bright-eyed.
