Giving Love

December 14, 2016

I've been listing to holiday music since the day after Thanksgiving. I could listen to Mariah's "All I Want For Christmas" on repeat for hours and not get sick of it. And while I love the happy, holly jolly classics, the more sad songs have really been having an affect on me this season. "The Christmas Shoes" always triggers tears and Kacey Musgraves "Christmas Makes Me Cry" has been hitting a person chord this year.

For all the love and blissed out festiveness that comes with the holidays, the season can also be a little tough. I think we all probably know a few people who could use some extra love during this Christmas season...it could be someone's first holiday without a loved one, or they're not able to be with family. Could be that they're burdened with stress, or feeling alone - or maybe they're going through a particularly difficult time and it's made more apparent during this time of year. Whatever the reason, giving a sign of love is a great way to make these people feel like they're not alone. A call or note works wonderfully but why not give a physical representation?

This year I'm gifting a few friends with lockets from Altar'd State - small tokens that represent love. My friends can pass the heart along to someone that needs a little extra love this season and keep the key for themselves as a reminder that love is the best gift one can give.

The wooden #ASGiveLove lock and key come free with any purchase from Altar’d State throughout the holidays. If you’re not familiar with Altar’d State, they are a retailer with over 70 locations, each boutique committed to a mission to “stand out for good and do their part to change the world for the better.” The company is fairly young (established in 2009) and already they are changing the retail space with their core values and mission engagement both with their employees and local communities. Some of the ways they do this is by funding local community service hours for employees, donating a portion of sales from each store to each local community, partnering with brands that have similar missions of giving back, and starting an Altar’d State Brand that helps feed, clothe, and educate children around the world.

This year, consider doing a little shopping at an Altar’d State boutique near you or on their website and using the lock and key that comes with the purchase to stand out for good and pass the lock to someone that needs a little extra love this season. You can share your gifting story on social media with the hashtag #ASGiveLove!

Hoping my buddies love giving some love with the lockets as much as I did this season…I’m keeping my little key by where I have my holiday cards displayed so I can have it as a constant reminder through the rest of the season.
