Lacy Midi Love

October 10, 2017

For someone who is somewhat shy of color, I sure have added some colorful dresses to my collection this past year! Funny thing is, the bright dresses I've been falling for are in the pink and red family...maybe I just have Valentine's Day hues on my mind year round? I like to think that blues and orchid purples are my "colors" even though I'm more apt to wear something white, black, grey or neutral. But when a dress packs a color punch and has a silhouette that I know I'll wear for basically ever I can't help but say yes. To the dress. My latest frock is the Poppy Lace Midi you see here. The scarlet red is anything but quiet but the lace texture and feminine details make it classic and perfectly statement-making.

I guess my love for the dress might be a little biased. It’s hard to do its beauty justice with photos but you can tell that the lace is un-lined from the neck to the bodice and then again at the end of the skirt. This illusion work makes the lace texture really pop and I love the lace-edge detail around the neck, sleeves, bodice edge and hem. Most of the time I see lace and think “old” or “trendy” or “cheap.” But the lace used here is anything but.

And even though the color is so perfect for this time of year (I love wearing red to fall weddings and parties!) and wonderfully on trend (kate spade’s fall collection is full of reds, pinks and awesome floral motifs) I’m legitimately going to be reaching for and wearing this number for years. Just watch…

P.S. the clutch is everything. I’ve been pining for one of ksny’s box-clutch designs for years – the jumbo tassels are my fave – and I’m so glad I waited till I met the Evening Bells Zuri version. The black on black floral details are everything.
