I’ve been meaning to post about Dylan Lauren’s wedding gown since it was reviled in Vogue’s August issue (the “Age Issue”)…For her June wedding to husband Paul Arrouet, Dylan wore a custom dress designed by her fashion royalty father, Ralph Lauren. Can you even imagine how special the design process was for the both of them? You always hear people say, “own the dress… don’t let the dress wear you…” and I think that Dylan’s stunning gown follows these rules to a T. Not only does the handmade silk tulle and duchess satin gown fit her like a glove, but it’s 9-foot ruffle train and mermaid silhouette is both classic and awe-worthy. And how nice is it to see a wedding gown with some straps? Straps and off-the-shoulder draped ruffles – so pretty and feminine.
There was a bit of hype surrounding the design of the gown – I myself was anxious to see if Ralph could surpass all of our expectations… To, me the dress is a flawless success. I don’t think just any designer could have pulled this sort of dress off for one of their daughters… Ralph took very special care in making sure that the dress said “Dylan” – that it was perfect for her and only her, something she would love. In his interview with Oprah, Ralph said, “I had to do something that was better than ever before… That’s the only daughter I have. I wanted to just give her something that she’d really treasure, give her something that would be really amazing, and I wanted her to feel fantastic.” My heart just melted. While the Vogue article pays special attention to the 37-year-old bride’s professional success with her Dylan’s Candy Bar store empire, it does pay homage to the lovely relationship the Lauren family seems to have.
Stay tuned… Ralph is also designing a wedding gown for his future daughter-in-law, Lauren Bush. Lauren and David Lauren will wed this weekend (!!) at the Lauren ranch (17,000 acres) in Colorado!
