rise no. 1

I’m going on a girl date tonight with one of my favorite people to one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas – rise no. 1.  Rise is special French bistro with a whole menu that is soufflé-centric.  The first time I went I didn’t know what a soufflé was aside from seeing previously on dessert menus… What I learned is that soufflés can be both savory and sweet.  The savory entrees are fluffy and light but packed with flavors like sundried tomato, ham and Gruyere, truffle-infused wild mushroom, and smoked salmon.  Sweet soufflé flavors like chocolate, raspberry, and Grand Marnier and brought to your table and topped with a warm pitcher or sauce that makes the desserts seriously melt in your mouth.  The fluffy, but perfectly dense soufflés are made with eggs yokes and beaten egg whites – sounds complicated but the restaurant sells their own cookbook, “Rise to the Occasion,” which walks you through how to make their fabulous menu items at home…

Aside from the special food, the atmosphere at rise is what makes it one of my favorite spots in Dallas.  The interior is relaxed-French with rustic furniture, European linens and flatware, glazed pottery plates and such (all the merchandise is available to purchase, too).  It has a farmhouse feel but is not kitchy or over the top.  If you go, make sure to try to get a seat on the patio (as long as it’s not too hot outside!).  Sooo excited for this Friday work day to end so I can relax at rise with lots of wine and gossip.

Fun Fact: rise is where President George W. Bush was dining with his wife Laura and two friends when President Obama contacted him about about Osama bin Laden’s capture and death.

Just Hangin’ Out

Described as “An over-sized bird’s nest offering you a secluded, suspended sanctuary and unusual meeting place: it’s the perfect place for relaxation, meditation, and open-air conversation.”  The Nestrest by Dedon is just that, a big giant birds nest that can literally hang from a tree in your backyard.  Similar to the concept of a hammock, but much more cool and comfortable.  I mean, look at those cushions.  Look at those pillows.  I’m ready to jump in right now.  If you were ever in need of some extra friends, just hang a few of these in your backyard and I can imagine it would make you some instant friendsies.  Who doesn’t want to hang around in a comfy pillowed nest like a little bird?

Okay, but, back to the particulars.  The Nestrest is made of extremely strong Dedon fibers that gurantee a strong and solid weave.  It is also completely customizable.  You can chose everything from the color of lounger – either natural or chalk, the color and fabric of the cushion, and the color and fabric of the pillows.  Genius, right?  This creation was done by Daniel Pouzet and Fred Frety – both known as two of Paris’ most intriguing design talents.  Daniel has even worked alongside Phillipe Starck (!!) on large-scale architectural commisions.  Sounds like these guys know a thing or two about design.

I know I have posted some pretty neat outdoor furniture on this bloggie before – but screw outdoor furniture…I can get a human-sized nest for my future backyard instead and chill with the birds in the trees.

Miu Miu Embroidered Swallows

Everyone is ga-ga for the highly coveted Miu Miu glitter booties but since I’m more of a clothes girl than a shoe girl, I’m drooling over their frocks with glitter embroidered swallows.  First spotted them on Hailee Steinfeld in the Fall/Winter 2011 Miu Miu ad campaign (love her in these!)and then again on Katy Perry (my girl crush) in the October InStyle spread… Can’t decide if I like the gold or silver color combination better – silver I think.  I could only really find images of the dresses that have the swallows but I’m really after the “cape” Katy is sporting in her feature… Sorry, can we just talk about how freaking amazing Katy Perry is with her pinkish lavender hair?  Her beauty and coolness kills me.  And I can’t really think of anything more glitter-fantastic than a black cape with silver or gold sequin swallows all over it.  Quirky and pretty.
