The week before Thanksgiving my office held an annual pot-luck lunch… Picture a massive amount of aluminum casserole dishes and a full spread of desserts and that’s pretty much what it was. Overall I was pretty impressed with all the deliciousness – nothing like the meal my mama cooked for our actual Thanksgiving but a good bit of eating all the same. My favorite thing I ate was marked “Crack Pie.” No one had really cut into the dessert but I live on the edge and also like using the word “crack” in my day-to-day vocabulary so I cut a slice. And I went back for seconds and thirds.
Guys, this pie is money. I don’t even really know how to describe its taste and texture but it has an oat cookie-ish crust with a gooey sweet-salty center that literally melts and your mouth and makes you so, so happy. I asked my co-worker for the recipe and she emailed me this link via Bon Appétit. I scanned the recipe with greedy eyes and plotted when I could justify making the pie and eating the entire thing by myself… Then I read that the recipe came from Milk Bar. Being the small town Dallas girl I am, I had no idea what Milk Bar was. Google revealed the fame behind the NYC based bakeries and the hype behind pastry chef and Milk Bar owner Christina Tosi’s new Momofuku Milk Bar Cookbook. Guess what’s in the new cookbook? Duh, the same recipe for Crack Pie. And tons of other recipes for the bakery’s unconventional and highly addictive sweets. YUM. Crack Pie will definitely be baked in my kitchen and consumed on my couch this weekend. Don’t judge me – just make the pie. Ok?
Happy, happy birthday (yesterday) to my darling god-daughter-dog, Augusta. Augusta aka Gus is our brother Scott’s Chocolate Lab and is practically my second daughter. My boyfriend and I watched her last summer while Scott worked in NYC (that gave us three labs at once), and I have been in love with Gussie ever since. I have never seen a dog that is more human-like than dog-like. Instead of swimming in the pool with the other dogs, Gussie would lay on the same lounge chair as me by the pool and when I got into my car to go somewhere, she would climb under my feet in the footbed of the driver’s seat. No floor sleeping either, she prefers furniture or beds. My kind of girl.
Our brother Scott is the best dog-dad to little Gus and bought her an extravagant amount of new toys yesterday (including this pig) and even bought her a peanut butter doggie cake. Are you crying yet? Because Mol and I were wiping away tears over all of this. So so sweet.
I have been missing Gussie for months since she left Texas for Connecticut. She is the best pup. And I wish her a happy, happy first birthday!
It’s that time of year again… When angels take the stage in their underwear – in the most artistic and creative way possible – in the name of Victoria’s Secret. The Fashion Show only comes once a year but now that Sally and I have DVR we can make the runway experience part of our everyday existence.
Ok, all joking aside, I seriously love the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Like I said last year, the music is amaz (although I’m not sure Maroon 5, Nicki Minaj and Kayne can even come close to topping my girl Katy’s performance last year), the girls look flawless, the themes are executed to a T. It’s also just a good time to stare at some of the most rocking bodies on the planet while in your sweatpants at home. I’ve already been getting real excited for the show with the makeup recap of artist Tom Pecheux on Into The Gloss and back-stage snaps of silk robes and makeup by Cupcakes and Cashmere and Karla’s Closet… And, like last year, Harper’s Bazaar gives us a little taste of what is come tonight… This year they are showing us some of the gorgeous jewelry that’s going to be spotted on the runway. Read the article to learn more about the themes that inspired the pieces!
Think we’ll be seeing angels or just really stunning women tonight? Maybe… “Enough with the false lashes,” makeup artist Tom Pecheux declared. “We used to do a lot of fakeness: false lashes, fake tan, blah, blah, blah. This year we kill everything. No more fakeness. You know, these girls are amazing and unique—they don’t want to all look the same,” – - via Into The Gloss
P.S. Check out the All Access site to the show here – I feel like I can’t be the only one interested in seeing how Alessandra Ambrosio gets her bod looking the way it does.
