Full Moon Story

Aren’t these images stunning?  They were taken by photographer Kim Kyung Soo for an editorial in VOGUE Korea and also as part of his series “Full Moon Story.”  I discovered several of them hanging up at one of my favorite (and smartest) co-worker’s desk and I was totally mesmerized by them.  She told me who the artist was and I’ve been meaning to post on them for months… I think the subtle fashion trend towards pastels is what made me remember them.  The models are wearing traditional Korean costumes (called Hanbok) and Kim has staged them in a way that comes across as high fashion and also historical.  I love how he styled the models lifting and ruching the layers of their skirted costumes – making the delicate pale-colored fabrics take on a more three dimensional, billowy appearance.

One gallery noted: “There is a serenity, poetry and softness which emanates from the pictures that astonishes and instantly puts the viewer in a contemplative state of mind.”  I couldn’t agree more.  The bold black pops from the models’ hair and the little black kittens against the neutral background and pastel colorsare my favorite part of the series…
