Bringing the Outdoors In

Its no secret that experts and real live people (myself included) believe that bringing the outdoors in can boost one’s happiness.  Just like the sunshine, living plants have the abilty to make a person happy.  I love watching our orchids bloom each time and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the paperwhite bulbs we planted this year shoot up by the day.  In a small apartment we are somewhat limited to the types of greenery that we can include so my dream of owning lemon trees and a big giant fiddle fig tree will just have to wait.  In the meantime, I have been quite fond Peter Dunham’s fig leaf fabric for quite some time.  It is the perfect amount of print that seems to light up any room.  The print and the neutral green color (green will always remind me of my grandparents house) could really transcend into any space and it is just playful enough to lighten the mood and (hopefully) bring a little bit of the outdoors in.  From the images above, it even looks amazing mixed in with other prints.

Needless to say I am pretty much obsessed with this print and am dying to incorporate it into my home space someway, somehow.  In my bathroom I have a built in vanity area that includes a knee-space where I have a little upholstered, skirted vanity stool.  Currently the stool is covered in a bright, Ralph Lauren striped fabric from my college days, and as much as I love the stripes, I would love to change things up to something a little bit more more grown up/sophisticated.  Now that Molly and I have found an amazing woman who creates the most beautiful slipcovers in the DFW area, this seems to be the perfect time to bring a little bit of figgy (pudding?) into my life.  I even found a similar, more affordable fabric option when I was ordering some Otomi fabric off of Spoonflower the other day which makes me that much more sold on the idea.  What do you think?  Should I do it…?

I may have to ask my talented, Interior Designing, bloggie friends like Bailey, Amber, and Jamie for their expert opinions:)

I know this post is about bringing nature in, but I'm obsessing over the painting of the woman in the red dress in the photo fourth from the top. How gorgeous!
