Our love story with Victoria of vmac & cheese blog started when we were talking about face oils and she reached out to recommend all-natural affordable type she swears by… BAM. Instant friendship. From there we bonded on a love of food, photography, J.Crew weekend wear, and much more – all through the dear internet. We were thankful that there was a blogger out there that wrote as much as we did (sorry, we know our posts are wordy) and connected with readers through a variety of lifestyle topics. I asked her to convince me to go to Alt Summit and after spending the weekend in together with our roomie Chelsea our friendship was solidified and the rest is history! V is the type of friend everyone should have: honest and caring, self assured, genuine, practical, and hilarious. She gives the best advice and is one of the most motivated women I know (hello – check out her amazz new business Vivaleur!!). With our further delay, we hope you love what She Wishes She Was Wearing!
QUESTIONS of STYLE:
.Describe your personal style in five words or less: Classic, relaxed. Understated, not underdone.
.Who/What inspires your personal style, influencing what you’re drawn to and what you end up wearing? I find inspiration everywhere! It could be a catalog I get in the mail, an editorial spread I see, a single pin on Pinterest, or even a fabulously dressed girl on the bus. However, I do find that I’m most drawn to looks that are put together, fit well, and can go easily from day to night. Which isn’t to say I’m always like this myself — working from home has made my day to day style much more…relaxed (no comment on how often my Saturday pants get worn)!
.What is an item you cannot live without or what are some of your wardrobe essentials? Skinny black pants. Gap’s Really Skinny pants and their Slim Cropped pants are so freaking comfortable, look good, and go with everything. I can throw on a chambray shirt and flats for something more casual, or really dress them up with a pretty silk top and heels. Other essentials include an assortment of tees in various colors, textures, and fits. For a long time I shied away from buying tees, because I thought they would make me seem too casual or young. However, a great tee paired with nice pants and a cardi is a perfect daytime or weekend look! I’m all about mixing casual and dressier pieces.
.What is your most recent purchase? I recently went on a little shopping spree at J.Crew (the sale was just too good to pass up). I snagged a couple of their Vintage Tees and a pair of fire engine red Minnies that I’m obsessed with.
.Where have you found some of your most treasured style items? For the day to day items. definitely J.Crew. Maybe that’s cliche to say these days, but I would say it’s cliche for a reason! I started shopping at J.Crew back in high school, and even during the dark days of critter pants, I was always able to find a classic piece that I’d have for a long time. I still have several sweaters and silk blouses that I bought there as a high school student — we’re talking well over ten years ago. And they are still in great condition and totally wearable! For the would-grab-it-if-my-house-were-on-fire items, definitely my grandmother’s costume jewelry archives. She has so many fantastic pieces and has been slowly giving me one or two every time I visit. I cherish them all!
.What is your go-to jewelry routine? Depending on the top, it’s usually a statement necklace and a simple watch or bracelet; or, I’ll do a simple long necklace and a chunkier bracelet. Both are always topped off with my engagement ring (which is basically the only ring I ever wear). I’m pretty simplistic when it comes to jewelry!
.What are some of your make-up must haves? I love a dewy look for cheeks, so Tarte’s cheek stains are perfect. Molly actually introduced me to Tarte’s eyelash curler as well, which basically changed my life. I’m also a HUGE fan of Benefit’s They’re Real mascara — a game changer for sure. When I’m in a hurry and don’t have time to touch up my makeup, I swear by Boscia’s blotting linens. I like the peppermint scented ones. Blotting away all that excess oil is so satisfying, every single time!
.If you could meet any designer who would it be and why? Toss up between Diane von Furstenberg, just to talk about career and life and what it means to be a woman today (I can’t even talk about how jeals I am that Molly has met her) or Elie Saab, who makes dresses unlike ANY I have ever seen. I want to know how he came to understand how to dress a woman so, so well!
.What’s the best style advice you’ve ever given or received? Always dress like you’re going to run into your ex. There are days where I’m so tempted to leave the house looking one way, but the thought of running into an ex (which would never happen, since none of them live in California!) always sends me right back upstairs for a touch of makeup, a spritz of perfume, or another little accessory to make me look more polished!
Going to be keeping the “always dress like you’re going to run into your ex” in the back of my mind from now on! Victoria has fantastic style and always dresses in what looks good on her rather than only going for what is trendy or “of the moment.” And if you ever want delicious new recipe she is your go-to girl… She does her research on just about everything and is kind enough to share her home-made recipes on her blog. Make sure you check out vmac & cheese! Thanks again, V! xx
