Most women play favorites when it comes to make-up and beauty products… I like to play around with different brands but my absolute favorite brand has always been NARS. Some of the first “real” make-up I was ever given by my mama was NARS; I’m not sure if it was the modern, glam packaging or quality product that initally stole my affection but I’ve been loyal for years and have no plans to jump ship.
Recently I was perusing the NARS website and happened to click the “world of NARS” tab on the home page… Holy Mecca – a trove of information about one of my favorite brands. Shame on me for not knowing more about Francois Nars (aka Mr. NARS in my mind) and his namesake brand… Did you know he started with just 12 shades of his pigmented lipsticks sold through Barneys New York? Did you know he has created several books? I didn’t either… But I love a good backstory and happily clicked through the site to discover more about the man, his products and the rest of the goodness that encompasses his line of make-up I so adore.
My favorite bits were Francois’ visionary statements: ON BLUSH “Blush is one of my favorite products. I think it is because my mother used to be so fond of it. She would never leave the house without it. If she ever didn’t have blush on, she would pinch her cheeks. It always made her feel better.” // ON CHOOSING SHADES “You should have an instant attraction to the product. You should fall in love with it.” // ON CREATING ORGASM “… I came up with the name first then created the color. I wanted something a bit audacious.”
It only makes sense that I adore a man who not only creates fantastic products I can’t live without (Laguna, Chelsea Girls, Riviera, Cruising, etc.) but one who also had a precious French Bulldog named Marcel… Marcel Nars appeared in a few NARS campaings before going to doggie heaven this past February. So sweet.
I loooove Nars products! Orgasm & Laguna, the lipsticks (the only lipsticks I wear are Nars…) Never knew much about the man behind the brand either, so thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the history lesson on one of my favorite brands! I've been a fan of Nars for years now, their products just work. The packaging might not be gold but there pigments are incredible and I've never felt like I wasted my money on one of their products!
I use few NARS products as well. My favorite is an orange colored lipstick. In all honesty I did not know a guy was behind the brand

i love their products as well!! but I have been using them since a year ago! I was a big MAC user before….but am so loving NARS. Loved learning all this about the brand.

It was my favorite cosmetics brand specially their funny face lipstick. Their nail polish are adorable too.
