Cleanse

Ever since mid May I have been going/going/going non stop.  When I say going I mean – weddings, music festivals, lake weekends, birthday dinners, younameit.  Anything and everything.  As a result I literally felt like my body was swimming in all of the beer that I drank and food that I ate (I don’t hold back at these types of events).  Even working out with a personal trainer didn’t seem to be cutting it.  12 beers a day at a three day music festival can really get to you.  Yikes?

Not only did I feel a little bit “full”, but I have been having major migraines and stomach problems.  Throwing up in public bathrooms is not really normal unless you’re hungover or have the flu, no?  Sooo…as a result, starting yesterday morning I started a juice cleanse with my boyfriends mom.  She has actually been on it for a week now.  (Much more dedicated than I am).

Lets just say these so called “cleanses”, for lack of a better word, SUCK.  I literally feel like everyone around me is eating pizza and pasta and couldn’t help but notice every.single food commercial during the Bachelor last night.  I know, I know, I’m being wayy dramatic, but I’m a big eater and haven’t had solid foods since Sunday’s dinner.  Any suggestions, tips, etc. to get myself through this?  In the meantime I am sucking down the juices and dreaming up where I will eat my first “meal” after this is all over…

Green tea saved my life when I cleansed! Good luck – it totally does such but is so worth it – you'll be glad you did it when you're done!

If your about to cheat.. start chugging water! You'll feel so much better after your cleanse, ESPECIALLY if you don't cheat. Good luck!! I'm off to get ice-cream. Just kidding, but I really do feel your pain.

I'd love to hear about which cleanse you are following! I've been thinking about doing one for awhile and think it would be a great kickstart for me.

I feel your pain. After a girls trip to an all inclusive resort in Cabo, a business trip to New Orleans and a lake weekend with friends, I am polluted. I'm not doing an all out cleanse, but drinking the Special K protein shakes for two meals a day, supplementing with fruit, and a light dinner. I'm only on my second day, but already feeling better.

DO IT GIRL!!! The hardest part of any cleanse or restricted diet is the mental part. I fell off my 6 day a week gym-wagon about 2 weeks ago and getting back on is so hard – I think of any excuse possible! I have to get my head back into it and then it is really easy, swear!

Thinking about doing one of these myself. Which cleanse are you doing? I'm going to start the Roots Cleanse in August.

Good luck with your cleanse! I totally feel you on the over-indulging at music festivals and weekends out with friends. Maybe try chewing gum to take your mind off the food commercials :)

I PROMISE it will be worth it. Day 2 is and 3 are prettyyy much the hardest things EVER, but I promise by tomorrow afternoon you will feel ON TOP OF THE WORLD. I was dreaming of cakes and cookies and ranch dressing (it's Texas, right?), but by the time it was over, I craved fruits, veggies, and good proteins :) (Well, until the wedding I attended the next weekend where I just re-did the damage…) C'est la vi!

I did a five day cleanse a few months ago and it was one of the hardest things I've ever done! Once you can't eat real food you start to notice all the delicious and wonderful smelling food around you. Having something like celery or cucumber slices to munch on throughout the day helped, actually chewing food was a welcome after drinking all day!

    Good luck!

I think all these juices and cleanses are somewhat of a trend and if you eat whole fruits and veggies you will have good results just the same. Watermelon is a natural cleanse and now is the season.
You can still have your carbs, but slowly introduce them back in but try to maneuver with a whole food diet. Long term benefits are not produced from short term attempts or trials.

I just did a cleanse a couple of weeks ago! And have been psuedo-cleansing every since with 1 juice per day. Drinking lots of water and green tea is very helpful. I also "cheated" with some fresh fruit (apples, berries) and almonds when I was really struggling. You will feel great (and proud of yourself) when you are done with the cleanse!!

Cleanses aren't trends they actually go back thousands of years. A cleanse isn't a short term attempt to "be healthy" it is a kickstart to detoxifying your body. They are beneficial to most, even those who eat a healthy diet. There are many doctors who agree.

I have been wanting to start juicing and have been eyeing a Breville Juicer for some time now. Not so much for cleansing, but for adding more healthy to my lifestyle and such. Had a delicious green juice at the Farmer's Market the other day and it was delish.

My way of cleansing is drinking lots of water, but not too much so you don't get bloated/swollen (i have this problem.) I've been trying matcha green tea where one cup is equivalent to 10 cups of green tea and 15 times more antioxidants! Sometimes I just mix it with hot water or have it with milk!
    Hope it helps!

I actually think eating SOMETHING while you're cleansing is a must. Eating plant fibers helps rid your body of the toxins more quickly; otherwise, they're literally just circulating in your blood for longer (which makes you feel horrible — headaches, dizziness, et al). Try eating Lara Bars — they're vegan (and I think raw?) and are literally just made with fruit and nuts. Can help you feel fuller and give you a bit of fiber!

I just can't get on-board with the juice cleanse trend. What ever happened to eating healthy balanced meals and exercising? I can't even commit to one protein shake a day, let alone juice ALL.DAY. Eeek!

I have a reeeeally hard time doing those types of cleanses too. I did a 2-day fast for the solstice and could hardly get through it! Anyway, I think if you totally find yourself starving to death, it's ok to resort to food. But only raw veggies, fruits, and nuts. I find that doing a cleanse with organic food helps me just as much as a juice cleanse and I am still able to function like a normal human being. But if you can do it, good for you!!

As a child I read that standing perfectly still, we lose 700 calories in 7 hours.
I decided to try it (even though I had no idea what calories were and why there was this list that talked about strange ways to lose them, but activities, unusual activities, yay!)… and got annoyed at myself when I moved.

My point is – we may take a diet (or any other kind of regime) to literally and not in its spirit.

The cleanse is there to cleanse you, to make you feel good.

If abstaining from solids is making you feel bad, eat solids, but in the spirit of the cleanse: fiber-rich foods, fruits, nuts and seed… and don't make any food taboo, just indulge moderately.

"Indulging moderately" doesn't sound all that exciting, but it feels much better than just indulging to no end:
    If I eat a piece of meat/cake/fruit, I'm satisfied.
If I eat the whole chicken/cake/a kilo of apples, I'll feel sick.

grains have insoluble fiber in them whereas fruits & veggies have soluble = digestible fiber. do you think you may have a grain intolerance? that can cause swelling and headaches. try paleo/primal!

I've never done a juice cleanse but I've always wanted to try one. They seem like they would be hard but worth it! Any chance you'll be posing recipes of the ones you use? Hope so!
