I have always been one of those girls that rarely ever wears my hair up. (Don’t worry though, I do wear a pony at the gym) My hair requires every day washing (ugh!), so after going through the effort of showering and blow-drying, it has always seemed pointless to then throw it up. I also feel wayy prettier with my hair down. Lately though, I have been blow drying it until it is just barely dry and then putting it into a bun or braid to change things up a bit. I have mastered the fishtail braid perfectly on other people, but just cannot get it right on myself. I have a hard time starting it out tight so then my shorter pieces of hair fall out and I look like a hot mess. Not cute. I think my hair needs to be a touch longer so that all of the pieces will stay in and look like the above images.
In the meantime, I was pretty excited to see that the Tory Burch Blog posted on the art of fishtailing the other day. This braid was seen on all of the pretty models walking the runway for Tory’s showcase of Spring 2013. Whether it was a single fishtail or two, the models looked perfectly whispy and bohemian. With Spring officially here (!!) this braid seems perfectly appropriate – a fresh take on the usual braid or french braid. Lucky for me (and you), hairstylist Eugene Souleiman gives us some pretty awesome instructions to creating this look all on your over on the Tory blog. I promise, its not as hard as it seems! I think I may attempt doing this on myself tomorrow morning – maybe a little hairspray will hold my hairs back? Happy fishtailing!
On another note, 7 For All Mankind is running a 30% off promotion on select denim and there’s lots of colorful goodness – including the floral pair that we both had to have.

i have been trying and failing at fishtail braids for ages. granted i’ve also been growing out a pixie cut for the last 3 years so maybe that has something to do with it. can’t wait until my hair is long enough! they are sooo beautiful!

I need to master the fishtail!

I love the fishtail braid look! My fingers are not quite nimble enough for me to do that specific technique, but I’ve heard of an easier way to do it — essentially making two regular braids and then plaiting them together with bobby pins.

Love the fishtail braid, but my hair is so thin that it doesn’t look quite right. I’m trying to figure out different things I can do with it, but it’s definitely a challenge, so good luck to you!

Haha, I too can fishtail other peoples hair…and not my own. Such a struggle. But I can fishtail and not french braid, for some reason?! Maybe one of these days I’ll master both.
I need to learn how to do these – they’re always so pretty!
Agree with the above comment–I love a fishtail but I feel like my hair is not quite thick enough for it to look as nice as it does on other people. And I, as well, am challenged when it comes to braiding or doing anything with my own hair when I can’t see it!

I love the fishtail! I was wearing one today. I always have my hair in a braid, and a fishtail makes it more unique.

I’m the exact same way about wearing my hair down! Why go through all that effort only to look like you just threw it up on your head! Curse people who can go days without washing!
