When I think back on my childhood and growing up, I can’t help but think that I was born and raised in a very creative family and amongst very creative friends. Nearly all of the women on my mom’s side of the family were artists in some way or another whether it was designing, painting, sculpting, or curating. With a mama who has a knack for all things artistic, growing up we spent all of our free time creating something or another and reveled in a big school project or any chance to plan a birthday party. Couple that with the fact that the majority of my life-long friends are seriously talented and creative people themselves and you’ve got a childhood that was filled with crafting and creating anything that we could dream up. It was definitely a very unique and special thing to be surrounded by as a little girl. Maybe Kansas City has something in the water?
One of my oldest friend Maddie’s sister Tara is an extremely talented artist and also a KC creative. I am so honored to be sharing some of her work on the bloggie today. Tara Andris lives and works in Washington D.C. with her precious husband and creates some of the prettiest paintings that I wouldn’t mind hanging all throughout my home someday. What I love most about Tara’s pieces is the use of metal leaf in them that gives them something extra and special that you don’t see all of the time. Tara paints using oils over a metal leaf background. While she has “experimented with various subjects using metal leaf background, her work often features skies and clouds, using metal leaf to reflect and mimic the depth of the sky”. Hello gorgeousness. The metal leaf is definitely what I love most about Tara’s paintings and I scream over the peak of it along the edges. Through her paintings of the sky, Tara hopes to prompt viewers to “look at something familiar in a new way”. Don’t you just love that? I am eyeing this pretty for my bedroom and have the perfect little spot for it. Which is your favorite?
Right now, through Valentine’s Day (February 14th), Tara is offering a 14% discount off of all paintings on her site. Such a treat! I will most definitely be scooping up my favorite little guy before it sells out:) Also not to miss are Tara’s pieces on Society 6 in the form of iPhone cases, prints, and even stationary. Would make such fun little gifts for friends or family!
