I’m a bit of an anxious traveler. It doesn’t matter if I’m going away for a week or just a weekend – I get really neurotic about packing and always want to be as organized as possible. I’ll admit it: I over pack 99% of the time but I figure if I have what I need, I’ll be able to fully enjoy my trip and not worry about what it is I don’t have or left behind. Because traveling is really about the journey… Packing is just what we have to do to get there!
Sally and I are very outspoken about the love and loyalty we have for Lo & Sons and our O.G./O.M.G. bags… They are the organized multi-functional solution to women that literally live out of a bag all day every day and I don’t want to know what would happen if I had to go back to traveling without one. As great as they are as a shoulder bag, they don’t have the necessary space to be an ideal weekend bag. Which is why I was ecstatic when our friends at Lo & Sons told us a couple of months ago that they had another bag in the works. Called “The Catalina,” it was designed as an overnight, duffle sized canvas bag with specific elements that make it the ideal weekender. Did we want to see it and try it for ourselves? Le duh.
Lucky for me, right when The Catalina weekender hit my doorstep I was able to pack it up and take it to Houston for our Cinco de Mayo trip. The bottom zipper pocket held my shoes and bulky hair tools while the roomy top part of the bag held the rest of my stuff; handy pockets on the outside and a zippered interior pouch helped me stay organized. To me, it was perfect for my weekend getaway – easy to pack (the soft yet sturdy canvas doesn’t slump too much), light to carry, and the “laid back” look of it disguised the fact that it looked like I had stuffed it full of clothes for a full week versus just a two day weekend.
Since it’s almost time for summer travel – I highly recommend The Catalina for weekending and more importantly, day tripping to the beach. Use the bottom pocket for your towel, and the top part for the rest and you have yourself an ideal, organized bag for sand and sun! As if you needed any more reasons to try The Catalina out for yourself, Lo & Sons is offering all A Piece of Toast readers a 15% off discount on any in-stock products with the code APOTMAY2013 – good till the end of May. Now all you need to do is plan a trip!
Last Saturday, Sally and I had the honor of being guests at Bradley’s wedding. It was a beyond gorgeous ceremony and an out of this world reception and we feel very lucky that we got to celebrate with her and her new groom! The occasion called for black tie so we both decided on long dresses that were nice but not too, too formal (didn’t want to look like we were going to prom or a gala) and glammed them up with accessories. We owe a very special thank you to Elizabeth Showers for loaning us pieces from her stunning collection for the evening (#spoiled #wishwecouldkeep). Per usual, I went with cool tones (blues and grays) and Sally stuck with the warm colors that always compliment her (pinks, corals, cantaloupe). I’ve always been the “blue” girl and she the “pink girl – ever since we were little… Even after hours of dancing we still felt comfortable in what we wore – a must in our book – and we’re excited to pull the dresses out again when the opportunity arrises! We love you B + C – thanks again for letting us be part of your special day!
P.S. We are extremely honored to be featured on Style Me Pretty Living as part of their “Behind the Blog” series! We hope you’ll hop over there to check out the pictures of our apartment (thank you, Kelsey) and our Q+A!!

Sally and I had so, so much fun hosting the Summer Beauty event with MAKE UP FOR EVER this past Saturday… It’s not every day you get to play with make-up all day and learn from the pros so we soaked up every glorious minute and loved getting to see all the people that stopped in for the event. Thank you to all of you that were able to come – we loved getting to meet you! And if you we’re able to come, we have all of our personal must-haves listed below… Favorites that we can’t live without: this primer, this foundation (so, so light it’s incredible), and this concealer (all day coverage, friends).
We were lucky enough to have our make-up done for the event by Heather and Joshua – the Dallas store managers – and honestly, we’ve never seen our skin look better. Check out the list of MAKE UP FOR EVER’s boutiques to see if there’s one near you… You can always buy their products online from Sephora, but its sooo much fun to be in their store and have the professionally trained artists helping you out. And even though they are known for their high pigment hues and long-wearing formulas, you will NOT come out looking like a clown or drag queen (unless that’s your thing, if it is they have you covered in spades). They really listen to what you want and only enhance your natural beauty!
Thank you again to our friends at MAKE UP FOR EVER for inviting us to be part of the one year anniversary celebration for the Dallas store! We can’t wait to wear our Aqua products all summer long and will be back soon for some Educational Classes!!
