Had to share some of the pictures I took last weekend at the Cinco de Mayo party hosted by the McCarthy Family. Bailey and Pete really know how to make an ordinary celebration 20x more fun – the food and drinks were festive and amazing but it was the outdoor movie watching (The Royal Tenenbaums – because we couldn’t find Heavyweights on DVD at the last minute) really made the whole night. It’s funny that when I showed the photos to friends at work their reaction was, “Woah, you really went all out.” Are flowered headbands, sombreros, and Serape’s all out? We thought it was just totally normal behavior. If I could have, I would have slept in that flower headband. Bailey’s babe Gracie had fun wearing one, too. She did not however, like the idea of wearing the Serape poncho we got her. The whole weekend was just incredible… Another Houston adventure for the books.
Check out Bailey’s post about the night here and definitely take a look at her Cinco inspired mood boards… And if you’re wondering where Sally got her kickin’ star sandals, they’re Loeffler Randall. And yes, I’m jealous. Both of the dresses we are wearing are oldies but goodies so I can’t link those for y’all – but don’t forget about that Mexican love round-up we did last Monday if you’re looking for festiveness.
Since it’s wedding season, I’m guessing that many of you are like me and trying to figure out what you’ll be wearing as a guest to upcoming nuptials… My strategy is to wear a comfortable but pretty dress (typically in softer, solid color) and add accessories that take it to the next level. It keeps me from looking too overdone and I stay true to my style whether the attire is for a black tie, brunch, or creative cocktail. A great place to look for both dresses and accessories is BHLDN. A favorite of mine since it launched in the spring of 2011, the brand specializes in all things wedding and it’s a one-stop-shop for brides, guests, wedding party members, and planners. I’ve always lusted after their jewelry pieces so I was thrilled when BHLDN asked if we wanted to do a giveaway with them.
How could we not? Especially when the prize was the Cerasus Necklace I’m wearing in the photos above! The feminine piece is equal parts delicate and bold – a gorgeous handmade number by Justin & Taylor it’s shiny brass, pearls, Swarovski crystals, glass beads make it the perfect accent for this time of year. I threw it on with a simple grey number but can see it looking stunning with all kinds of colors and styles of dresses (I loove this navy one!). Sadly, the necklace is just on loan for me – one of YOU lucky readers will be the one to call it yours!
To enter, simply visit BHLDN, and leave a comment on this post telling us what dress (from the selection of bridal gowns, party dresses, or wedding party frocks) you could see yourself pairing the Cerasus necklace with! Entries must be posted by the end of day Wednesday, May 15th, and one winner will be chosen at random and announced on this post the following day. Good luck!
[No purchase necessary to enter, open to US readers only. Please leave your email or web address in the allotted comment boxes only. $160+ total value. Winners of the giveaway will be contacted via email once the giveaway closes and announced on this post soon after.]
So many of you have been asking about how I feel about last Friday’s hair cut so I thought I’d tell you – I LOVE it. I think because I had spent a good two weeks giving myself pep talks and feeling solid in my decision to cut off so much I didn’t feel one bit nervous. No, I don’t miss my old long locks (yet) and styling the new length has been relatively easy and kind of a fun experimentation process. My stylist Lindsey decided that taking off the required 10″ for Locks of Love wouldn’t leave her with enough hair to clean up the shape so we took off 9″ and it’s getting sent to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths (a similar donation foundation that uses hair to make free, real-hair wigs for women battling cancer). I think I’ll go a little shorter at my next appointment but this length is a great transition into shorter hair territory… So thank you for sending me good vibes last week and for all the compliments via Instagram! Happy you guys approve of the new cut as much as I do.
