7 For All Mankind

New Year, New Vision #3

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 MBM

I am self admittedly a type-A person.  I like to organize, fold laundry, make to-do lists, and so forth.  Before having the blog, I ran my world like a well oiled machine… My days were always constant, I was never late on paying bills, always sent birthday cards to friends ahead of time, and went to bed early because I got all my computer stuffs done after going to the gym.  Let’s just say that having this blog has made staying on top of things challenging.  My third resolution for 7 For All Mankind and the “New Year, New Vision” campaign (see my first post and second post) was all about making the most of my time and being as productive as possible.

Most bloggers like to turn off the computer during the weekends and take Saturday and Sunday escape from all web related activity.  But the weekends now feel like the only time I can have full control of scheduling every minute of my days!  Last week, before I headed home on Friday, I made a massive detailed list of all the little things I needed to do before Monday… Everything from washing my workout clothes to sending specific emails was on the list.  I knew that I would be “out of the house” for a wedding shower and an appointment and that I had the rest of the two days to get my stuff done.  I have to say, that the more I kept telling myself “you only have these two days!” the more focused I was on crossing things off my list.  I guess I kind of bullied myself a little bit, but it worked!

Luckily, both Saturday and Sunday were gorgeous days, and I got to do a little bit of work outside (in my freshy fresh floral skinny jeans) and the rest of the time I was in my sunny apartment with the windows open and music on.  Even though I didn’t get to everything on my list, I still felt a huge sense of accomplishment on the 90% that did get done.  Whatever available hours I have when I get home at night I’ve try to have the same “hurry, hurry, try to get a few things done!” mentality and again, I’m getting more done than before.  So let’s see – using my trusty date planner, note book (full of lists), iPhone notes app, and becoming more aware of my free time has made me more productive than before… I guess I should have known all along that it was mind over matter!

I’m so glad that 7 For All Mankind invited us to participate in their campaign… I really did get so much out of it, and I think my visions will be long lasting realities the rest of 2013!  I hope you all took a peek at our New Year, New Vision pin board, and don’t forget to enter to win the pair of jeans and $500 cash card here if you haven’t already!  Happy new year :)

New Year, New Vision #2

Wednesday, February 13, 2013 MBM

I’m really lucky that my office has an in-house gym that I can visit during lunch to get my yoga on.  I determined that after nearly a year without any kind of workout routine, that the new year was as good a time as any to get back into fitness and feeling good.  My second resolution for 7 For All Mankind and the “New Year, New Vision” campaign (see my first post here!) focused on being active.  I admit, even with a gym just a hop and skip away from my desk it’s sometimes hard to get up the motivation to go…  Change out of the work clothes (like my new cloud blue skinny jeans) put on the workout clothes, stretch, sweat, work it out, and then put the work clothes back on and sit back at the desk.  It’s a double edged sword – you feel awesome that you got the workout done during the day but it can be a drag to have to go back to sitting at a desk after being active.  I know, I know – how can I even complain when I have the luxury of going to yoga and pilates during my work day?!  Just slap me.

Having my co-worker Kim as my gym-buddy helps me stay excited about going to classes.  Truthfully, if I didn’t have someone kind of holding me accountable for going four days a week I may not be as successful as I have been.  Some other things I do that help me stay focused on the goal: 1) pack my gym bag the night before, 2) eat a healthy lunch before I leave for the gym so my energy is up, 3) mark my planner with the days I go (I feel so good looking back and seeing how productive I’ve been).

Even though I’ve only had my new routine going for 5 consecutive weeks, I really think that I can keep up with the resolution and maintain it for the whole year … It’s crazy how much better I feel and how much more energy I have now that being active is a designated part of at least four of my workdays.  Being active and working out is a pretty common New Year’s resolution – so I have a feeling that several of you readers are in the same boat as me.  We can do it!  If anyone has tips they want to share for how to stay focused and motivated, or tactics for mixing things up at the gym please share!  Vision #3 is coming next week…  Till then, check out our New Year, New Vision pin board, and enter to win the pair of jeans and $500 cash card here if you haven’t already!
