I have been a long-haired girl for such a long time – the last time I did a big chop was the end of my senior year of high school and once it grew back out I never cut it shorter than 5-6 inches below my shoulder.  My hairs are long.  And up until recently I’ve always liked them that way… I can wear those hairs straight or curl them, braid them or do a ponytail that looks more like a horse’s tail, or make a knot that stays without anything holding it.  I’ve contemplated several times cutting off a good amount but I always chicken out because my hair felt like “my thing” – sort of like my security blanket or somehow attached to my personality.  Of course it “always grows back,” but what if I don’t know how to make short hair look good or at least acceptable on a day-to-day basis?

When Julia was in town with us last weekend I died over seeing her new-ish haircut in person… It’s so sleek and chic and to me, it makes her look older (something that makes me more eager to cut mine since I look like a 12 year old as is).  I asked her if it was hard to make such a change and it turns out she was just as attached to her long tresses as I am to mine.  She said that cutting so much off was freeing – and I believe her.  And I think she gave me the final push to be able to tell my hair stylist next Friday (Lindsay at Larc Salon, she’s a doll face) that I need at least 10 inches off to give to locks of love and that we can play with the length from there.  We’re talking a medium bob.  Shoulder grazing.  I think I’ll feel naked but also empowered as weird as that sounds… I’m so excited for a change!  Wish me luck and feel free to offer any tips and tricks that might help me stick to my guns or style afterwards!

Ladies and style icons that along with Julia, are making me excited about the upcoming chop because of their current or past do’s: Miroslava Duma, Olivia Palermo, Elizabeth Olsen, Sienna Miller, Alicia, Ashley Olsen, Taylor Tomasi Hill, and Diana Agron.
