Last night was the most dramatic Women Tell All I have ever seen, in the history of The Bachelor. So dramatic. So shocking. Just kidding… It was pretty hilarious to watch though. I bring up The Bach because last week, before she got dumped, AshLee was wearing a necklace that said “gypset” while she spent the day with Sean in Thailand. The best part about Monday nights is watching this show with Sally and my co-workers Kim and Aubrey. Aubrey made a comment that it was interesting that her necklace said “gypset” and I was all, “why? what the heck does that even mean?” Aubs gave me a light overview of the term and after doing my own googlin’ I found www.gypset.com – an entire site dedicated to this “lifestyle.” Basically… “Gypset (Gypsy+Jet set) is an emerging group of artists, musicians, fashion designers, surfers, and bon vivants who lead semi-nomadic, unconventional lives.” Which to me, translates to: those who can afford to travel all over the world but prefer to do so in boho way that disguises their wealth (ie: no stays at the Four Seasons or Louis Vuitton luggage). Jealous? I am.
This whole movement and lifestyle is captured by Julia Chaplin – a New York based freelance journalist and editor. She’s written Gypset Style (2009) and Gypset Travel (2012) and also founded the gypset website and designs a clothing line that can be purchased on the site. Although I think the whole notion is a bit… snobby (?), I have to admit that it fascinates me. Both Gypset books look like they are full of gorgeous images and I like that they provide stories and a behind the scenes look of this “glamorous but casual” lifestyle that very few get to experience. So maybe AshLee was feeling a little gypset while in Thailand thus the wearing of the necklace? Hmmm…
