Beauty Dish

Since my first “beauty dish” seemed like a hit, I thought I’d do another round up of some products that I’ve been loving.  Yes, some of the things have been gifted to me to try – but I’m sharing them with you chickens because even though I wouldn’t have necessarily bought them at first glance, I have be obsessed with them and think they deserve the spotlight.  Sometimes it’s the products you don’t think are “you” that end up being favorites… At least that’s how it is with me!

- Sam’s Natural, Men’s Natural Deodorant: Ohh yeah, deodorant.  I’m going there.  So I’m going to assume that a lot of you have heard that a lot of anti-persperants and deodorants aren’t great for you because of the aluminum they contain.  I won’t get all science-y on you but you can read more about it all here.  My friend Aubrey is the one who told me about Sam’s Natural Deodorant – it’s anti-microbial, free of metals and parabens and sulfate, and is handmade  in small batches from all natural ingredients.  It also smells AMAZING.  Like, so good.  It’s not going to keep you from sweating (that’s an antiperspirant, friends) but it’s a safe and natural product that makes me smell like a dream (even after a mid-day workout).  I just realized that West Elm now sells this deodorant for women, but I’m going to stick with my manly stuff.

- Maybelline ColorSensational Lipcolor in On Fire Red (gifted): The first time I put on this lipstick I did it as a joke while at work.  I thought, “This Washington-Apple red is going to look horrendous on my weird lips and make me look like a clown – this will be hilarious.”  But then when I talked to people to get reactions everyone was complimenting the color.  My prank was ruined but my lack of confidence wearing bold lip color was shattered.  It was a major moment… So now when I’m feeling particularly unkept (dirty hair in a bun, casual outfit, bags under eyes) or when I want to get fancy, I put this on and feel like rawr.  The formula is really smooth, not chalky or dry, and you can layer a couple swipes to make it as bright as you want.  I don’t know if the On Fire Red color would work on every skin tone but for some reason it does on me (evidence here – agree or disagree?).

- Clarins Double Serum (gifted):  Oooo – there is nothing that I love more than trying out anti-aging face stuffs.  I have forehead “expression lines” that I want to get rid of!  Clarins’ Double Serum is a new hot-off-the-press item for age control and both Sally and I love it.  It has 20 “pure plant extracts” that work to reactivate your skin’s vital functions.  What you get is skin that’s hydrated, more firm (they do call it extra-firming after all), reduced wrinkles (true), and an even skin tone.  We pat the serum into our skin each morning (a couple minutes after we’ve washed and moisturized with our normal products – and several minutes before we start putting on make-up) and have noticed that our skin looks and feels much healthier and firm…  If you’re looking for a good every-day serum you should check it out – it’s getting rave reviews by other users, too!
