The older I get, the more concerned I am about my skin in terms of sun protection.  Just last week, I made a visit to the dermatologist to have my skin checked and she continued to stress to me the benefits of sunscreen.  With fair skin like mine and the hot Texas sun, you can never be too safe when it comes to sun protection.  Even though its only March, the sun is already SO strong down here.  My boyfriend and I were outside with our pups on Saturday and I got a super sunburn.  Who would have thought.  Guess its time to officially break out the sunscreen for Spring and Summertime.

Cover Clothing was started by two Dallas moms who set out to create chic, yet protective clothing for women to wear while out in the sun.  Lisa Moore and Robyn Stevens were tired of spending summers at the pool and beach with their little ones and feeling so exposed to the sun because of the lack of sun protective wear for women.  Aka none of the juvenile swim shirts that seemed to be the only thing on the market.  The Cover girls spent over a year researching to find the very best in UV protection and in turn created a line of clothing that is moisture wicking, quick drying, breathable, and lightweight – all while remaining UPF 50+.  Not only is the line of clothing beyond protective, but insanely good looking too.  Cover‘s dresses, skirts, and tops are the most flattering and classic silhouettes that would look great with any bathing suit and for any occasion involving the sunshine.  We have a big family reunion beach trip coming up in June, and I think I think Cover is just what I need for our long days that will be spent at the beach.  The clothing is sold online at Neiman’s and sold locally at Five and Ten – this dress and skirt are at the top of my wishlist for summertime.

DVF Loves ROXY

I have had swimwear on my mind, big time, this week.  When Mol and I stopped in to Haven the other day I fell in love with two bathing suits that I am dying to have for some summer beach trips and now…this.  The DVF loves ROXY collaboration that has finally come to fruition today.  The legendary Diane von Furstenberg paired the bold and graphic prints that she is known for with Roxy’s signature swim silhouettes to create one hell of a collaboration.  And just in time for summertime.  Still to this day, I can remember that one of my first ever bikinis (aka tankini) was by Roxy.  I think I was 13 or so and I just thought I was the cat’s meow.  You know, awkwardly skinny and cute like that.  Nothing at all like the cool surfer girls you see above.

You can watch a video here on the Roxy Blog where Diane is interviewed (on the beach no less) and explains her theory behind the collaboration with Roxy.  She compares her well known mantra of “following your heart” to the action of riding a wave – you commit and then trust yourself that all will go as planned.  I kind of love that.  I definitely plan on picking up at least one of the suits, but what I really want is one of those surfboards to go above my bed!
