1. TGIF.  I’m kind of sort of totally taking on more at the j.o.b.  It’s really exciting stuff (truly) but now that it’s the end of the week, my brain needs a break.  Or at least a weekend recharging.

2. Puppies!  Sally and I are moving out the current apartment we share together in August and today we’re starting to look at new potential places to live… The best part about this is that the new place will need to be dog friendly – because as soon as we move I’m getting a puppy!  Not a spotty Dalmatian, but I had to use this picture because it melted my heart.  Can even really talk about how excited I am.

3.  I got these shoes from Zara via their free shipping and when they came in, they were too big (which is really weird?).  I’m going to the store tonight to try on a smaller size and crossing my fingers that they fit… I desperately want a minimalistic strappy shoe in my life!

4. I bought three different Blue Bell ice cream flavors from the grocery store last night (evidence) and it makes me wildly excited to think about digging into each over the weekend.  Just need to get my hands on the red velvet and lemon bliss next.

5. Guess what I’ve been wearing a lot of?  Statement necklaces.  I know… I never thought I’d see the day.  I’m still staying loyal to my love of dainty gold chains but layering sparkly chunky numbers on top of them from Lulu Frost, Cornwall Street, and few others.  Maybe I like it because it seems totally ironic due to my avoidance of them for so long?

6. Wearing tonal tan hues looks nice… when you have a tan.  Which is exactly what Sal and I are getting tonight – spray tans via St. Tropez at Nordstrom.

7. Love these rows of hanging flowers.

8. I’ve been feeling the void of not having an inspiration board for tear sheets… Liking Erin’s idea of using a clip board and leaning it in my room.  Might have to haul out my giant drawing board from fine art classes.

9. Saturday night Sals and I are getting all dressed up for Bradley’s wedding!  Can’t wait to share our dresses, jewels, accessories, and make-up with you after the event… As excited we are about getting glam and seeing our guys in tuxes, nothing compares to the excitement we have for seeing our gorgeous B as a beautiful bride.  Eeeek!

For some time now I have been eying these black lace up heels from Zara, but had yet to bit the bullet on purchasing them.  Mainly because I have a pair in black leather that I got a few years back from J.Crew that are somewhat similar.  I wear my J.Crew pair like crazy though, so it would probably make sense to buy another pair that I could rotate them with so that neither pair gets worn to its death.  Right?  Seeing the shoes on the likes of Liz, Gaby, Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere, and on Julia this past weekend has only solidified my thoughts on the shoes.  All four girls are major style icons of mine and have shown how versatile the shoe can be.  From flirty skirts to denim to shorts, its clear that these shoes will go with quite a lot.  Being that they are from Zara, the price is right too.

A few other lace up sandals that I can’t help but love – from Ann Taylor, J.Crew, Loeffler Randall and Shopbop.  Which do you favor??

Annie Griffin Collection + Discout

As much as we like learning about new brands, we love learning about the people behind them even more – it’s what makes small businesses so dynamic.  So it’s no surprise that when sisters Annie Griffin and Robin Gerber introduced us to their clothing line Annie Griffin we were loving them from the beginning… That sister-sister kinship is pretty powerful, you know?  Founded in 2009, Annie is the designer behind the line and Robin heads the sales and marketing.  From looking at their collection it’s easy to see that their Memphis, Tennessee roots show through in the classic, feminine pieces that have some retro tailoring and splashes of color.

Of course Sal and I jumped at the chance when offered to style some of their Spring 2013 pieces… What they sent was right up our wardrobe alley – comfortable but stylish, with wiggle room to style multiple ways depending on our moods.  Sally paired the Elizabeth tank with some patterned pajama pants wide leg trousers as a subtle way to mix patterns and textures (the navy swiss dot works as an un-ridgid print with the pattern on the pants).  We both love the high neck that ties in the back… Sally’s even wearing it today with lavender skinny jeans!  I’m in the Mimi Tunic and Lindy Shorts – and the white and green/teal color combo is surprisingly helping me look less pale than I actually am.  Incredible. Tunics are always a spring/summer staple since you can dress them up with jeans or shorts, or wear them as a cover-up over swimsuits.  If I was just a leeetle bit shorter it might have been socially acceptable to sport the tunic as a dress… But I actually love the white trim against the nuby silk shorts.

We are always conscious about quality when we shop so it was the details, fit, and finish that sealed the deal and really made us huge fans of Annie Griffin.  You can shop their Spring collection on their site now and their pieces are in over 150 boutiques across the country (find one near you here!)… Annie and Robin are such sweet sisters, they are offering all A Piece of Toast readers a 25% off discount for the same Mimi Tunic I’m wearing above!  Just use the code APOT25MIMI at checkout to redeem.
