Guys, It’s East Dane.

November 5, 2013

Shopbop’s other half, East Dane is an e-commerce site dedicated to providing for the guys in your life. Like Shopbop, the site has just about everything you could ever imagine and at price points all across the board. The best part about it? You can check out with one shopping cart online from both Shopbop and East Dane which makes upcoming Christmas shopping a cinch. I am a teensy bit reluctant to make this site known to my boyfriend as it might make his spending habits skyrocket! (All images via East Dane Style Guides)

SWIMS – The Modern Galosh

March 15, 2012

Its official – I have now found the perfect shoe for my boyfriend to wear in the rain and while playing with the dogs by the pool so that he doesn’t ruin every pair of leather drivers he owns.  Driver death due to puddles filling the shoe is never good and everyone knows that leather and water don’t mesh too well.  I first learned of the SWIMS brand while creeping around on the Neimans website a while ago.  SWIMS were created by a gentleman named Johan from Norway who grew up in Europe wearing his grandfathers old galoshes year after…

SWIMS were created by a gentleman named Johan from Norway who grew up in Europe wearing his grandfathers old galoshes year after year and rainy season after rainy season.  It wasn’t until Johan moved to New York – ditching his golashes to fit in with the image conscious culture and in turn ruining many-a-shoe – that he created the modern galosh that is SWIMS.  The theory that Johan had in mind when creating SWIMS was that one could get through a “big city rain” without completely cramping their style – shoe style that is.

If you want my opinion, Johan has hit the money with his line of rubber/mesh loafers and drivers for both men and women.  Coming out of a huge rain spell in Texas and a rainy day last weekend in Austin where my boyfriend just about ruined a pair of leather drivers, I definitely have rain-wear on the brain.  I can get around just perfectly in my black Hunter Boots, but there is really no good looking and versatile option like this for guys.  The silhouette of the SWIMS perfectly aligns with a pair of drivers you could buy from Cole Haan, Gucci, Prada, or Car Shoe which makes the shoes not just functional, but extremely good looking as well.  The color options are endless and they even come in a classic brown, grey, or navy for guys that don’t like to go crazy with their shoes (this color way is my personal fave).

I know I own a pair of Hunters, but I am kind of crazy about these shoes for myself, too.  There is something so classic and timeless about a driver.  I think they will forever remind me of our stylish mama who while growing up could sport a pair of jeans, drivers, and an oxford so effortlessly.  I don’t even think of these shoes as just a rain shoe, but a great pair of classics for this time of year where we are transitioning into summer and wearing sandals everyday seems just a little bit aggressive.  I am thinking of SWIMS as an updated Sperry Topsider, which remind me too much of my highschool and college days for me to wear them anymore.  A grown up version if you will.  Which would look so chic with a pair of shorts and a chambray shirt or skinny jeans, a tee, and a pretty scarf.  As much as I adore the bright colors they offer in the shoe, I am leaning towards the classic Almond color because I know it is something I would never tire of.

What are your thoughts?  Would you sport these?  Better yet, would your man friend(s) sport them?

Manly not Metro

So this guy I know needs a bag for work.  He doesn’t like to be mentioned on this little blog so we’ll just say he is a tall, handsome, 20-something with a very relaxed and unassuming sense of style – right now he carries a tattered nylon messenger bag to work and it’s bordering on unprofessional.  SO I’ve been on the hunt to find him something new… The first bag above is what I presented him from J.Crew.  I thought I hit a win… It was inexpensive, basic but nice looking, had some hardware but nothing that looked like it…

He wants what every 20-something guy wants in a bag: a worn-in, tannish-brown, basic leather or canvas shoulder/messenger bag that looks cool with out trying to be.  Rugged but office appropriate and one that definitely could never be considered metro.  I’ve looked everywhere I can think of for this perfect bag.  The closest thing we can find is this number by Polo and by god, if we had an extra $995 we’d have bought it and called it a done day.  But we are 20-somethings.

So you readers are my last ditch effort – does anyone know a great brand/bag that fits the above dreamy description?  I know you all have great style (it’s a given) and many of you must have man friends, so any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Vilebrequin is the king of all swim trunks.  And for a very good reason.  Originally started in Saint Tropez in the 70’s, the company,”symbolizes the values shared by elegant and demanding men, men who wish to combine casual elegance with humor, originality with impecable taste, and quality.  They are naturally at home in this colorful world, reminiscent of fine sandy beaches, sunsets and dreams.”  The collection was widened in 1995 with the “like father, like son” approach where they created identical trunks to dad’s in sizes ranging from 2-12.  Now generations of families can sport the same stunning trunks on the beach year after year.  When I was in one of their stores, an employee told me that they often times have grandfathers who come in before family reunions on the beach and buy trunks for the entire family of boys.  How cute is that!?

The trunks come in an array of styles, colors, and patterns with each as enticing as the next.  Each pair is made with care and includes: double stitching at the seams for strength, reinforced stitching at “stress points”, a polyester cord that never loses its shape, double inside hems, and rear eyelets to reduce the “ballooning effect”.

Vilebrequin: “Revolutionary yesterday, stylish today, a fashion icon forever!”
