Carrying Clare V

December 5, 2017

Over the past few months I realized I was missing an essential accessory. A smallish black bag - ideally one that could be worn with a shoulder strap or as a clutch. I have a lot of clutches and bags with straps (several of them black) but they're either too small to fit what I need or too casual when I want to transition it from my everyday wear to something more dressed up. As someone who has loved all things Clare V - my flat clutches are go-to's - I wasn't too surprised that her 2017 Holiday collection included the bag I had been dreaming of. Called Flore, she's a hard-framed bag that has a gold chain strap that can be worn over the shoulder or tucked inside when carried as a clutch. What really made me fall for Flore - besides the vintage-inspired shape - was that it came in hair-on (aka calf hair). Elegant and fun but un-fussy...I obviously scooped her up and am excited to share her glory!

Along with the Flore, Clare’s other Holiday pieces were influenced by her trip to Africa with Every Mother Counts – specifically the vivid palette she experienced while in Zanzibar. Same minimalistic silhouettes Clave V is known for with a dash of graphic pattern, textures, and more. Each bag in the collection is lined with bright red canvas…a perfect festive pop!

Get to know the other Clare V Holiday bags: If you’re a girl who loves the clutch/shoulder strap option (sort of perfect when you want to be hands free or need a more minimalistic look) then you’ll love the Midi Sac Supreme (the croc embossed leather is beyond beautiful in the bold red) and the Colette Maison Crossbody. I’m really into the mixed stripes on the Midi Sac Stripe Crossbody and the Mixed Media Fold-Over Clutch and love that the same red and navy was incorporated in all the snakeskin embossed leather bags…check out the Midi Sac Crossbody, the Petite Henri Drawstring Bucket Bag and the Center Stripe Flat Clutch. Speaking of flat clutches, the Poppy Print Clutch and Star Suede Cluch are both examples of print perfection. More great pattern and texture action with an awesome chevron use on this Drawstring Pouch (love that gold chain strap) and the Marquis Foldover Clutch. I really think the size and price tag of the Croc Embossed Wallet Clutch makes it an excellent gift for someone!

When you have a great bag, it doesn’t really matter how you style it…you just need to pick a bag that you know will be versatile with your needs! Flora totally filled an gaping accessory hole I had. I’ve already taken her town and she’s just as great at a casual dinner with girl friends as she is at a more fancy dinner then out for drinks (and maybe some dancing).

Open-Back Sweater

December 4, 2017

I did a huge overhaul on my sweaters around this time last year while I was pregnant and as soon as I switched my closet over to cold-weather stuff a few weeks ago I was all, "Wait, what happened to my sweaters?" Molly reminded me that we did a big purge (and assured me it was necessary) and I felt kind of relieved because it let me see that while I liked the stuff I kept, there seemed to be some key pieces I was always missing. I probably won't replenish too much this year but I did want to invest in a couple sweaters that fit my wants and needs. What I know is that I end up wearing well-made basics the most...and that little details go a long way with me. As soon as I saw this Ribbed Open-Back Sweater from Cuyana I knew I'd found my ideal cozy grey pull-over.

I actually got to see and try on the sweater in person at the current Cuyana pop-up store in Dallas (Northpark Mall – get there!) and sold on just about every aspect of it. The knit is a blend of Italian merino wool and cashmere but unlike other sweaters with a similar combo, this one is done in a way that keeps the fibers from pilling. If you’re ever had a sweater that pills (cashmere does it all the time) you know how annoying and frustrating it can be. Besides the fact that it’s SO soft (no itch factor) it’s a really nice weight – not too thick and but not thin at all – that makes it perfect both for the mild winters of Texas and some of the colder spots I sometimes travel to.

The open-back is mostly made by an overlap of geometric cuts. I wasn’t sure it was for me (an exposed back…does that put me in the same territory as midriff-baring stuff?!) but it definitely doesn’t leave me feeling overly exposed. It’s just a really nice detail to an otherwise simplistic design. And the little gold button at the nape of the neck, well, it’s just the icing on the cake.

P.S. the style also comes in ecru and black!

Amour = love. And I love this sweatshirt. Other people really love it much so that it's currently sold out on J.Crew (grrrrrrr). Very annoying, I know. But as someone who loves upgraded sweatshirts (you know, styles that are a little nicer or have something extra - making them perfect to wear with jeans without looking sloppy?) I have found and linked some other favorites!

Words, embroidery, patches and more: this one says “LOVE” with letterman-style letters and it comes in two colors, this one comes in two colors and is embroidered and embellished with “oui” and “non” (so cute), you don’t have to be a New York native to rock this one, stripes and a little heart patch give this a sporty look, really love this one with rêveur (which means “dreamer” in French!), adore the heart patches on the light blue and light pink version of this, this one has bold sleeves and bold embroidery but is super fun, and I’m not usually one for hoodies but this sunny yellow color is so fun, another hoodie but this one has a tennis twist.

Solid colored: I have this style from last season (in light pink!) and love the slightly cropped fit, this off-shoulder guy is amazing, everyone needs a white sweatshirt and this one looks so clean and cozy, love the three color options and high side slits on this.

And can I take a second to gush about how obsessed I am with the fun feathery/fuzzy handbag you see here?! It’s the Mini Ann Bucket Bag by Frances Valentine and it seriously makes me so happy. The style comes in several colors but I’m crazy about the red…it’s especially perfect for the holiday season!

Starry Chiffon

November 28, 2017

Forget hearts for eyes, I got stars for eyes as soon as I saw kate spade's holiday collection. In case you missed it, let me tell its comprised of moody blues (including a really fabulous rose print) and icy blues, soft metallics, winter white, not-your-average black pieces, and a few blush pink pretties to round it all out. And stars. Inspired by the siberian night sky, the ksny team incorporated a range of starry styles - from stars woven with metallic threads into chiffon (as seen in the dress I have on here!) to more eye-catching shiny and embroidered embellishments (hello jeans and dress), a few printed stars (this tee and button-up are adorable), and a knit sweater that got the big star treatment. Love how the clustered stars are a whimsical take on classic polka perfect to wear during the festive holiday season when nearly everything starts to take on a bright and glinting look.

So yes, I fell for the star stuff quickly and immediately gravitated toward this Night Sky Dot Mini Dress. Molly got a similar mini style several months ago (embroidered with cherries!) and I loved how the long sleeves balanced out the shorter hem. To further compliment the short gathered skirt I paired it with a pair of tall boots – which happen to have the perfect comfortable heel height. Feeling pretty special in this starry number and will most definitely be wearing it for more than a few holiday festivities…

Other kate spade pieces that have the same star treatment as my dress: this fun ruffle top, this midi dress (love the tiered skirt), this gathered skirt (another mini number!), and this peter pan collared top.

Psssst! It’s a great time to shop kate spade new york because their Cyber Monday sale is still going strong (though it ends tonight!). Get 30% off pull priced items and 40% off sale items with code MOREJOY!

Thankful + The Kolkata Top

November 23, 2017

What I heard this morning: it's easier to be grateful, than it is to be perfect.

So much to be grateful and thankful for this (especially my new nephew), friends (who are the absolute best), goo health, happy puppies, a feeling of purpose and fulfillment, food, fun, memories made over the past year, an appreciation for what the rest of 2017 will hold and a genuine excitement for all that's to come in 2018. I'm definitely not perfect but I am beyond grateful.

Wishing for everyone to have a wonderful day giving thanks and hopefully eating some delicious things!

Oh yes…and I love this outfit! Packed this Mirth top to wear while at home (have already worn it a ton) – it just feels like the ideal fall top. The Evelane jeans are new (both to Everlane’s collection and to my closet) and I have to say, I’m impressed so far. And the Halfmoon Magic sunnies are a recent addition – because Sally and I kind of obsessed with the style. The rest is all oldies but goodies!
