All About the Ojai

May 18, 2017

They say you can't/shouldn't wear white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day. Such an out-dated rule...and one I've never been good at following. Once it's warm enough, I'm all about the head-to-toe white looks and especially gravitate towards white dresses. Being that the warm weather hits Dallas in early spring, I've been wearing my fave white frocks for a few weeks now...and this Ojai Caftan by MIRTH has been on repeat.

The best thing about wearing all white – besides the fact that it always looks so crisp, clean, and fresh – is that it creates an ideal canvas for layering colorful, bold and or statement-making accessories. I’ve worn the Ojai with both wedges and sandals but really like how it looks styled with my spring Sabahs (the Thassos Tea is such a pretty, icy aqua!). Normally I wouldn’t add more color to this look but the shoes are almost a neutral and they go perfectly with my Pom Bon earrings from The Loveliest.

I should probably note that out of all my MIRTH caftans (and I have quite the collection), the Ojai is one of the lightest and most breezy of the bunch. It’s a little hard to see in the photos but the 100% cotton handloomed fabric (re: so, incredibly soft and light) has a check pattern that gives it some great dimension.  Details like the braided rope around the neckline, tiny tassels, and tie sleeves just make it even more special.

Daisy Flutter

First thing's first: I'm completely obsessed and in love with my nephew. He is the most perfect little muffin and I swear my heart exploded when I met him. Seeing Sally become a mama has been the most amazing thing...seriously in awe of her and how natural she is in this new role. Love, love so much love.

And here I am in a HATCH dress! Sally and I have touted how HATCH is fantastic because the pieces are designed to be worn before, during and after pregnancy. I am not pregnant (obviously) but I am very into the fact that Sally and I were able to share HATCH dresses and tops while she was in her final trimester and I was just...myself. This Daisy Flutter Dress is a fave of mine because the ruffle neckline can be worn a few different ways and the raw silk is luxe but also slightly casual and super comfortable.

So about that neckline. It can be worn up on both shoulders as straps, down and across in an off-the-shoulder style, or with one strap up and the other off for an effortless cold-shoulder look. I’m a fan of wearing it all three ways and even though it does have adjustable shoulder straps, I prefer styling it without  them to keep the flounce nice and clean. The dress also comes in navy but how perfectly does the dusty rose hue go with my Loeffler Randall Layla sandals?!

What else…I’m really loving HATCH’s Summer Plage collection (this caftan in black has my name on it) and can’t stop listening to the new Miley Cirus single, “Malibu.”

Just Caftaning

May 9, 2017

You feel that? It's caftan season. Getting to host the MIRTH Caftan pop-up trunk show at the Dallas Sabah House last week officially kicked off the back-to-back caftan wearing for me and I celebrated by wearing some of my favorite MIRTH styles on repeat and day after day. Literally, I wore the one you see here last week and then sported this classic style two days in a row (and I'm not mad about it). My favorite part of the trunk show - besides getting to hang with Katie and Erin - was having them explain to a male visitor what a "caftan" is. Sweet guy, he kept calling them "cat-hens" but he was very impressed by the offerings and openly jealous that MIRTH didn't have any mens styles. For anyone else scratching their heads, just know that a caftan (or kaftan) is a style of dress with a robe or tunic feel. Think light, flowy, non-constrictive, and loose. MIRTH puts their own spin on their styles so that they are loose but ultra flattering.

The caftan I have on here is called the Zermatt and it was part of the Resort 2017 collection. Sadly it’s sold out in the the handwoven dot on MIRTH’s site but you can still find it online here! And the good news is, the Spring 2017 collection has a Zermatt style in the most beautiful block print (get it here and here).

More good news: MIRTH is offering a great discount in honor of Mother’s Day! Use the code “LOVEMOM20” to get 20% off purchases on their site between now and Friday!

Side note: I’ve been watching Harry Styles perform on The Today Show while typing this post and I’m officially a fan (of him, not the squealing girls in the crowd). “Sign Of The Times” = so good.

Harbour Stripes

May 4, 2017

Who knew I would be so into stripes while pregnant? I really didn't have any idea what I would wear these 40 weeks, what I would feel comfortable in or gravitate towards - but soft pieces with more of an A-line silhouette or drapey construction seem to be my vibe. And jeans. And stripes. Lots of stripes. This dress is basically the longer, short-sleeved, and ruffle hem version of this top I posted back in February. I totally fell for the top because it was such an elevated basic (and really lives up to it's name of being a  date night go-to) and when I met The Harbour Dress while HATCH was popping-up in Dallas last month I knew I needed to scoop it up for my last few weeks with a bump.

The best part about this dress is that it’s super soft and ridiculous comfortable but looks kinds of fancy. And it has stripes. And this belly seems to love stripes.

Simple Meets Bold + Bright

May 2, 2017

Keeping it short and sweet today...because this simplistic (but not basic) HATCH dress and bold + bright Loeffler Randall sandals kind of speak loud and clear for themselves. I'm not sure which piece I fell in love with first but the two work together pretty perfectly.

I wasn’t sure if the modern asymmetrical hemline and slouched side of the Highline Dress would look quite right on me (the body-hugging dresses are more Molly’s thing) but it looked so cute on the models, I wanted to give the sleeveless style a try (because sleeveless is essential for the Dallas heat). I’m so glad I scooped it up because it’s so, so comfortable and easy to wear. Love that it can be transformed from super casual (with sneakers), dressed up (with a wedge), or made to be in between with sandals like the ones I have on here.

These sandals…I fell for them as soon as LR dropped their SS17 collection. The fact that they’re called “The Sal” wasn’t lost on me – I knew they had to make their way to my closet! They’re just so happy and bright, and I’m crazy for the bold statement the itty bitty pompoms make.
