A little leopard can go a long way. It can be the neutral texture or pop of pattern to any outfit. But a lot of leopard - or rather, layers of leopard - makes for a statement that's fun and maybe a little daring. You all probably know this by now (especially if you saw our post about the LEOPARD LEOPARD LEOPARD event Molly and I are hosting this Thursday night!) but kate spade new york is a long-time champion and genius when it comes to all things leopard-print. And this season they've really let the cat out of the bag (hehe, see what I did there?) with a collection fully dedicated to all things leopard! I've always loved mixing the same type of print in various scales - though I typically stick to stripes - and love how this simple outfit is anything but boring thanks to the leopard on leopard action.
I’m anything but afraid when it comes to wearing white jeans after Labor Day. I loooove how they pair with other neutrals, especially those in the brown-tone family. Thus, I knew my new chunky leopard-print sweater from kate spade’s puuuurfect collection would be great paired with white denim. I feel like the lighter hues in the sweater and the white pants act as a good balance to the darker and more saturated leopard-print flats. These flats are my new best friend. They make my daily t-shirt or button-down + jeans feel instantly more fun. And speaking of fun…it’s impossible not to get a happy and fun reaction when people encounter me with my cheetah cat iPhone case. It’s a ridiculously cute little wild card!
Friendly reminder, Mol and I will be hosting an everything-leopard fete at the kate spade new york store at Dallas’ Northpark Center THIS Thursday, October 5th from 6-8pm. Whether you’re already a leopard lover like we are or someone wanting to dip their toe into the animal-print goodness, let us be your style guides for the night. And bonus, there will be sips, snacks, nail stickers, temporary tattoos, and more! Let us know you can come with an RSVP right here.
October! This month brings with it my birthday (the 21st!), Blue Moonbeam's birthday (turns 4 on the 23rd!), Halloween (of course), and Breast Cancer Awareness. I know I'm not the only one familiar with the fact that each year October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The annual international health campaign is marked by countless charity and fund-raising efforts for the disease that touches so many. From celebrating those who have fought or are currently fighting to drawing awareness to the disease and the research still needed for its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure - October is so much more than pumpkins, it's pink power.
Like so many, I have loved ones and personal ties to women affected by breast cancer. I also know how hard it is to stand by and feel helpless as they struggle and fight. What I love so much about Breast Cancer Awareness Month is that it offers so many various ways to support the cause. This year I'm especially excited that Helen Jon - a favorite swimwear and resort designer - has designed a special capsule collection where 20% percent of the sales from the items will benefit GLAM4GOOD and its Breast Cancer Initiatives. Keep reading to learn more about Helen Jon, GLAM4GOOD, and of course, the adorable pink and white pieces that do more than just look great...they honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
If you familiar with the goodness that is Helen Jon I’m very excited to be introducing you. Started in 2012 by Gwyn Prentice, the line is designed with a very specific focus: to create sophisticated and flattering designs that offer more comfort for women. Mic drop, am I right? Sounds like a no-brainer but all women have been frustrated at one point or another when shopping for swimwear…Gwyn got fed up with sub-par quality and un-flattering un-fashionable designs and got to work. Having worn both her bikinis and one-piece suits I can vouch that the cuts are beautiful and offer just the right amount of coverage (a very key component for walking, bending, swimming, lounging…all things beach and pool related) and the fabric is sturdy and flattering (support for those who need it, nothing see-through and no flimsy/saggy fabrics). The whole collection is full of basics (re: timeless and elegant) that don’t feel basic. Best of all, Helen Jon is more than just swimwear and offers a one-stop-shop cover-ups, loungewear, activewear and more that’s perfect for all warm weather and resort needs.
As a salute to the pink ribbons that signify breast cancer awareness, the Helen Jon capsule collection that debuted just this month includes pink and white stripe suits as well as a white embroidered tunic. 20% percent of the sales from each item – the pink & white stripe string bikini top and bottom, pink & white stripe lattice back one-piece, and white embroidered tunic – will be donated and dedicated to the Breast Cancer Initiatives of the GLAM4GOOD Foundation.
The GLAM4GOOD Foundation is unique in that it is a US non-profit organization that uses style and beauty to make a social impact. Founded by Mary Alice Stephenson, the organization harnesses the healing power, joy, and attention fashion and beauty bring to bolster self-esteem, promote positivity, honor courage and help everyday heroes and people in need. By partnering with non-profits, media outlets and fashion & beauty brands GLAM4GOOD is able to provide life-changing makeovers, clothing giveaways and confidence bolstering fashion and beauty initiatives for everyday heroes and people in need. GLAM4GOOD’s Breast Cancer Initiatives are one of many non-profit organizations and efforts they offer support to. As they say, “Improving the lives of others is the ultimate form of style.”
I know there is a see of options when it comes to being involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month – my hope is that Helen Jon and the GLAM4GOOD capsule collection is on your radar! I can’t say enough great things about the quality, comfort, cut, and fits of each item. And it’s not every day (or every month) that a purchase leads to a donation of the sale and that’s what makes this partnership and collection so special. Get your hands on the limited edition pieces and support Breast Cancer Awareness Month through the end of the month! AND Helen Jon will donate $1 to GLAM4GOOD for every new Instagram follower they receive during the month of October – so hop over to their account and give them a follow!!
I have to say, I'm a liiiiitttllleee bit sad that I bought this top at full price and now it's on sale. For almost 40% off. What can you do? We all know that J.Crew is famous for their markdowns and sales as much as they are for selling out of pieces. Even though I feel bummed that I didn't get the off-the-shoulder tie-neck top at the steal price it is now, I'm glad I've had it to wear these past several weeks and happy that some of you can scoop it up now that it's under $40!
For me, wearing black clothes can be tricky (athletic wear doesn’t count). Sometimes the color feels super harsh for my fair coloring? I don’t know. Originally I saw the off-the-shoulder tie-neck top in the chambray version and was convinced that I needed it. Then I tried on the black version in-store and Molly convinced me that I would wear it way more than the chambray. Glad I listened to her, because the cotton blouse has been the easiest to throw on – dressed up or down – and I love that the layered ruffle keeps the hue from feeling too edgy. And as much as I love the clean look of an off-the-shoulder blouse, I really like that this one has the tie-neck detail…somehow it makes it all the more comfortable to wear!
It's not even October and pumpkin-everything is all I see. At Trader Joe's (naturally, I took home my own section of pumpkin-ish stuff today), outside houses, on Instagram, etc. You'd think that with the 90 degree heat it would deter Dallasites from risking pumpkin decor outside...and you'd be wrong. Here in Texas we are soooo ready for fall. And being an October birthday baby means that all the pumpkin sightings and Halloween prep are signals that my big 3-0 is soon approaching.
Pumpkin talk aside, I'm pumped to be sharing this fantastic cotton blouse today. It's new, it's still in stock (shocker considering my track record!) - though FYI, stock is running low - and it's my fave score of the season. How can you beat this much look for $49.99?!
Not sure what else there is to say other than: run, don’t walk to H&M and get this top while you can! I’m wearing a 2 and I definitely could have gone up a size (the waist situation is elastic and pretttttty snug).
If you’re size is already gone, promptly throw a temper tantrum and start speed dialing H&M stores till you find one. Or check out this, this, this, this, and this – all white tops that are amazing. Looking for white sweater goodness? I suggest this and this. And while we’re at it, these aren’t white but are equally great: this and this.
There's quite a bit happening with this top: eyelet (of the flower variety), ruffles, bell sleeves, and tuxedo pleats. Somehow J.Crew made it all work. And it's not too terribly preppy - which is crazy considering the eyelet and ruffle factors. As soon as I tried it on and did a little front tuck I was sold. Sometimes navy feels tricky to wear with jeans (it can be a lot of blue) but the texture and detail on this guy means that it stands out when worn with darker denim and it's not too harsh to wear with lighter washes like what I have on here.
Side note, I recently stole borrowed these Lucky jeans from Molly’s closet and well, I love them. Might have to get the same pair and another Bridgette style for myself since Lucky is having a buy one, get one 50% off deal. Who knew I would like high-rise denim so much?!
P.S. J.Crew is having a “buy 2 get 20% off OR buy 3 and get 30% off” on select items with code “MOREPLEASE” and this is one of the items…as is the Easy Sweatshirt Molly had on in yesterday’s post!
